Aug. 27 Open Thread: A Plague of Frogs

The Republican Party should ditch the elephant and replace him with a frog in a pot of water. Axios released the argument for that in the form of a spreadsheet listing all the probable investigations Democrats will launch if they capture the House majority. How did they compile the list? They simply entered every investigation Democrats have asked for and the GOP spiked since Trump’s election. They also know the water’s getting hotter but they’re not budging.

Apparently upset at being upstaged, Trump has made John McCain’s death all about Trump, taking every opportunity to be churlish and childish about the fact that McCain not only couldn’t stand Trump, he was also admired in a way Trump will never be. (Even the man who ran North Vietnam’s Hanoi Hilton praised him.) So Trump vented by vetoing the statement staffers had written lauding McCain, and ordering flags on federal buildings returned to full staff this morning.

Now that Trump’s buns are in the toaster, pundits are coming out with their “it won’t end with Trump” warnings. The New York Times magazine at least packaged its story about Trump packing the federal courts with some interesting background on the Federalist Society, the GOP’s long-gestating plan to mold the courts to their liking.

Political fungus Roger Stone is telling his supporters, whoever they might be, that he needs their money because he’s next. Shameless? Of course. A man with a tattoo on his back of Richard Nixon is clearly incapable of shame.
