Biden is Running – No Suspense Left

Family on board, and staffing up. The March 16th announcement is a formality.

Former Vice President Joe Biden said that he’s “very close” to making a decision on whether to run in 2020 now that his family is on board.

“The most important people in my life want me to run,” Biden said during a speaking engagement Tuesday at the University of Delaware.

CNN first reported the comments.

Biden said his “first hurdle” was deciding whether he is “comfortable” putting his family through a “very, very difficult campaign” when it comes to both the Democratic primary and a possible general election against President Donald Trump.

Biden added that the “second piece” is not wanting the run “to be a fool’s errand.”

“I want to make sure that if we do this – and we’re very close to getting to a decision – that I am fully prepared to do it,” Biden said.

Biden added that it would be the “greatest honor” of his life to be President, but that he has to make sure that he could run a “first rate effort” and be clear on the direction he thinks the country should go.

Biden has reportedly made job offers to potential staffers in the key early state of New Hampshire, according to National Journal. HuffPost also reported that Biden has made job offers in South Carolina.

To do him justice you need to put that picture of him washing his car shirtless back up.

When he wins that will be back to back teatotalers in the WH. #signsoftheapocalypse

I’ll wait for the formality. He’s been at this point before.

Actually, I hope he does announce. It should be interesting and fun while it lasts. This will be internecine warfare at its best. I’ll stock up on popcorn. In end it won’t matter as the Democrats’ inability to unify will ensure another Trump term.

Yeah, I know that’s a dire prediction, but unfortunately, the progressives and moderates just won’t be able to find enough common ground to coalesce around a leader. I think it will be pretty close to a repeat of 2016, where people sat out or very publically held their nose when voting after shredding the very candidate they ultimately had to vote for.

Normally, I’m an optimist, but there are times where pessimism is just facing reality. And the reality is many people go all in on their candidate and have nothing left for the actual nominee.

I believe the only that will save us from Trump is impeachment or Trump’s decision not to run because he’s bored and it’s hard work.

    Bernie’s going to win.

“Progressives” and “Moderates” needn’t come together. Folks of no particular category or faction or clique will coalesce around Bernie because he has a consistent clear message about addressing people’s material needs.

I think he has an excellent chance of winning, but the rest of your analysis seems like wishful thinking. There’s a large faction already seeking to undermine him again. Check out Daily Kos if you don’t believe me.

    • Dave says:

I agree he has a clear consistent aspirational message and I suppose in as much as folks are responsive to messages like ‘I’m going to build the wall and Mexico is going to pay for it,’ people may indeed coalesce around such aspirations with no thought of whether they can be achieved.

I wish I had an argument that says people will consider not just the what, but the how, but you are probably right, they don’t care about the details. They only care about the sound bites and such is the nature of upcoming campaign, polemics and promises, but no policy.

      However, I remain pessimistic.

I’m not afraid of Markos. This isn’t 2004.

I don’t mean him personally. There are plenty of diaries that show it isn’t an isolated phenomenon. Confidence is nice, but let’s not pretend this is going to be easy. We are fighting two foes at once. Ask Hitler how that works out.
