Susan Collins gets Trumpist Primary Opponent

Filed in National by on March 25, 2019

This couldn’t have happened to a nicer fraud. I hope he cuts her cake-having-&-eating-too head off (metaphorically speaking).

Sen. Susan Collins has demonstrated her willingness to sell out her supposed principles to Donald Trump when it matters most: Supreme Court nominees and tax cuts for the superrich. She thinks she can walk the line in her 2020 re-election campaign, occasionally bucking Trump (Trumpcare, border emergency) to keep her moderate voters on board, but being Trumpy enough to stave off  challenges from her right. It’s not working.

She’s got a primary opponent now, though not a particularly serious one. Derek Levasseur is a blogger and former cop who announced he’ll primary Collins because she voted against Trump’s border emergency declaration and because she wants police to be able to temporarily take guns away from people deemed dangerous. He’s a kook, but he’s a total Trump kook, vowing to back “America First policies,” which is probably enough to make Trump notice and say nice things about him.

Even though he is a joke, The more Derek Levasseur praises Trump, the more Trump is going to make this primary an actual race.

Also – if he is paying attention, this should scare Senator “I like it both ways” Coons. In Maine the primary is not the election. In Delaware – it is. If you aren’t fighting Trump, you are a collaborator.

I get that there are problems with Collins. But why on earth would you want a Trump guy to defeat her?

    • Alby says:

Think Christine O’Donnell. Maine is not a red state. It’s more like Delaware, one medium-sized city, lots of purplish suburbs, rednecks scattered throughout the rural areas. Collins wins by pretending to be moderate.

    • ben says:

because, dude.. she BARELY won her last election. She got in because it was a large feild. a MAGAT gop nominee would not win in maine. look up their past few senate and governorship elections to understand. Yes, Paul Lapage is a magat, but he got the largest share of the vote, not +50%.

OK, if the Trump guy is the candidate the democrat might be more likely to win. I’m not sure I’d risk it. Besides, Collins has helped out now and then. It’s very possible to be an anti-Trump moderate. Perfect as enemy of the good kind of thing. Maybe too much political strategery?

You’ve got a screw loose, Charlie Brown. You’ll never kick that football. NEVER!

    • ben says:

Collins essentially voted to overturn Roe V Wade in her vote for Kavanaugh. now she’ll have to tack HARD right to win her primary. she’s toast either way and that seat is as good as flipped. I want her to lose the primary though so she understands she sold her soul for nothing.

Some of you guys are the Tea Party of the left. That’s fine. If it works out that a democrat beats Collins, I’m all for it. But I’ve learned not to underestimate the appeal of the Trumpoids. And Ben, “teaching her a lesson” sounds kind of silly. It won’t matter if she’s out of office.

      tea party of the left…

nathan, I mean this with respect. you’re lilly livered.

almost every moderate dem lost their election. not because of the “CRAZY LEFT” but because they tried to compromise and reason with insane cultists.
quite honestly, your continued desire to “find middle ground” is what’s crazy.

I thought I had all the Peanuts collections, but I missed “You Have a Screw Loose, Charlie Brown.”

  5. nathan arizona says:

Orwell said a lot of things. Ben, it’s “lily.”

It was hard to type this while shaking with fear, but I pulled through.

    • RE Vanella says:

He did indeed. And none of it was fucking weak cliché.

You really think I’m letting that slide?

  6. nathan arizona says:

Quoting Orwell is in itself kind of a cliche these days. And, of course, his politics were all over the place. People find the quote that supports their position. He was still a great writer.

  7. nathan arizona says:

    I don’t disagree about cliches.

It’s not so much that I like the middle as it is that I think anti-Trump forces might need the middle.

I should be asleep now but I just got out of a concert by the Killers in Las Vegas (don’t ask) and I’m wired.
