Supreme Court Poised To Institutionalize Rethuglican Criminality

Filed in Featured, National by on April 24, 2019 1 Comment

There’s so much Trump-inspired white noise out there that the undemocratic takeover of the country continues unabated in the shadows. In this instance, buoyed by Mitch McConnell’s machinations that have yielded Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, a profoundly injudicious Supreme Court appears ready to rubber-stamp an illegitimate census count. A count that will almost assuredly […]

Song of the Day 4/24: Charles Bradley, “Changes”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 24, 2019 2 Comments

When Charles Bradley was discovered by Daptone Records around the turn of the millennium, he was nearly 50 years old and performing a James Brown impersonation as Black Velvet. (Earlier he billed himself the Screaming Eagle of Soul.) Once he hooked up with Daptone’s Tom Brenneck he became an international success, partly because Brenneck steered […]

Of all the dumb bullshit

If you want to open 30 Llc’s in Delaware for your many shady business ventures, locate them all at 1209 North Orange Street, and pay the state peanuts for the privildge of laundering billions through them – no problem! But, we do have some standards. DOVER, Del. — A popular Colorado-based restaurant company is suing […]

A rare Democratic win/win situation: Mayor Pete vs Bernie

A rare Democratic win/win situation: Mayor Pete vs Bernie

Today’s headlines point to the fact that the race for the Democratic nomination is rapidly turning into a two person race. Mark the time: I’m calling it – Bernie v Mayor Pete.

The good news is that both potential nominees are great. With Trump’s numbers slumping, the only things that can trip Democrats up this year are zealots who cannot brook their candidate coming in second.

In related news, Buttigieg expanded on his remarks yesterday. I don’t think any honest Bernie supporter can take offense to this simple statement of fact below.

Song of the Day 4/23: Taj Mahal, “Queen Bee”

Filed in National by on April 23, 2019 1 Comment

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival kicks off Thursday, and if this doesn’t make you wish you were there I don’t know what would. A local media outfit had the idea of getting musicians to play in the back of mule-drawn carriages while riding through town. Taj Mahal and his rhythm section were filmed […]

With Student Debt Forgiveness, and Free College Elizabeth Warren Works to out Bernie Bernie

There is a new class traitor in town. Elizabeth Warren has proposed a $1.25 trillion plan to forgive student debts and make all public college and university undergraduate education free, as well as earmarking $50B for historically Black colleges, and expanding federal grants to help pay for all students’ non-tuition expenses. The plan will be […]

Lisa Blunt Rochester agrees on the need for pre-impeachment hearings

If congressional Democrats don’t do anything in the face of the mountains of evidence of criminal activities documented in the Mueller Report, they are flatly giving up on the Republic.

If they push for an impeachment of President Trump in the House that will fail in the Senate, many fear an electoral “backlash” similar to the vote against the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Lisa Blunt Rochester would like you to know that she aware of the fact that Trump is a corrupt, disease-ridden dog of a President*, but she wants to hear directly from Mueller before calling for impeachment outright.

Joe Biden’s Campaign To Peak Next Week

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on April 20, 2019 23 Comments

Why? Because he is announcing next week. At least, as of today.  I may be overstating the case. But if so, only by a week or two. The initial flawed strategy was for him to delay his entry and remain above the fray.  Apparently nobody in the campaign anticipated his hands-on proclivities and disastrous previous […]

Trump’s TV Defenders

Trump’s TV Defenders

My TV news blackout broke down temporarily last night. As usual, in ten minutes of viewing I was exposed to less news than punditry. In this case the pundits were “reporting” that the President’s defenders were taking two tracks.

1) The President didn’t really commit crimes because his underlings ignored his illegal orders. And,

2) The President didn’t really commit crimes because he didn’t have “criminal intent” to commit crimes. (Accidental crimes and crimes committed due to blundering ignorance don’t count I guess.)

Pretty weak stuff.

Highlands Bunker – E11 – Squishy Centrist Pundit

News Journal opinion editor Matt Albright joins RE Vanella in the bunker to talk about ad hominem attacks and the Delaware Way. Also, a reading of “A Clinton-era centrist Democrat explains why it’s time to give democratic socialists a chance” from Vox.

Kate Smith – Open Thread

Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” is a bullshit song. Woodie Guthrie answered the bullshit in real time by writing “This Land is Your Land” in response. So I’m never sad when that bullshit song gets exposed. Here are some other thougths on Kate Smith and the Flyers. -The Flyers suck anyway, so maybe changing up […]

Song of the Day 4/20: Ben Harper, “Burn One Down” Live at Bonnaroo

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 20, 2019 2 Comments

Though there are enough weed anthems to make a playlist that lasts 4 hours and 20 minutes, my favorite is Ben Harper’s Jamaica-flavored proclamation of the freedom to fire up. Harper included the song on his second album, “Fight for Your Mind,” in 1995, and it’s been a staple of his live set since. Like […]
