A rare Democratic win/win situation: Mayor Pete vs Bernie

Filed in National by on April 23, 2019

Today’s headlines point to the fact that the race for the Democratic nomination is rapidly turning into a two person race. Mark the time: I’m calling it – Bernie v Mayor Pete.

The good news is that both potential nominees are great. With Trump’s numbers slumping, the only things that can trip Democrats up this year are zealots who cannot brook their candidate coming in second.

In related news, Buttigieg expanded on his remarks yesterday. I don’t think any honest Bernie supporter can take offense to this simple statement of fact below.

“My point is that people have been motivated to want to blow up the establishment. And Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump represent radically different ways of doing that,” Buttigieg, a Democratic presidential candidate, told NBC News’s Josh Lederman.

“But I think part of how each of them was able to get some appeal was by speaking to the frustration that so many Americans have with anything perceived as the establishment, anything seen as being committed to the political and economic systems that have been prevailing really for my entire life,” the 37-year-old mayor added.

Buttigieg is also speaking to another certain frustrated constituency. So all political candidates are the same… only radically different. OK.

Is he going to openly defend the neoliberal order and set himself as the status quo guy?

  2. Delaware Dem says:

I will vote for whomever the nominee is in the general.

RE, if the race came down to Bernie v. Warren, is your plan to attack her as a defender of neoliberalism and the status quo too. Seems to be the only play in the Bernie book.

    • Ben says:

Of course it is. Haven’t you seen the “Wealthy Warren” memes? Shit she admits she used be a Republican. She is obviously a deep cover agent (like jason, only way more evil) and only the Meme army can save us.

So he’s going to work within the system and get things done. I like it! A fresh establishment approach that no doubt will help the people in the middle, just like that same approach has for the past 50 years.

I already hear the corporate donors breathing a sigh of relief that their lobbying dollars won’t be wasted.

  4. REVanella says:

No, because she isn’t one. Didn’t I just say yesterday I love what Warren was doing?

I’ll repeat for the slow and purposefully obtuse.

    Best candidate – Bernard
    Good candidates – Warren, Gravel
    Bland – The field…
    Bad candidates – Biden, Klobochar

You know, I’m starting to think there are some bad faith actors out there.

Also, for record, I have the exact opposite view of this “I’ll vote for any Dem nominee” routine. It’s not noble. It’s posturing. Yes, we all appreciate the special dangers of Trump. This doesn’t mean we stop doing politics. Pretend to isn’t courageous or helpful or good.

    • Delaware Left says:

It’s funny, all the people who love to talk about supporting the party and not getting negative in the primary, are all the same people who will vote Schultz when Bernie wins the primary

  6. REVanella says:

In DD’s defense he’ll vote for Bernie in the general. Said so.

But the #NeverBernie people are the real monsters. And I don’t see them challenged like leftists are.

Now isn’t the time for acquiescence and neutrality. It really isn’t.
