Get Off Of My Lawn Your Beach.  Filthy rich plutocrats don’t want the Great Unwashed enjoying their ocean. Here’s what slimeball Mike Huckabee did about it.  Aided and abetted by corrupt politicians from both sides of the aisle.  What a horrible family. Hey, this is quite similar to what happened down on the ocean side of Lower Slower. And, yes, corrupt politicians were deeply involved in that as well. Hint: Land swaps.

Toxic America: How The Chemical Industry Co-opts the EPA.  Much of this took place before Trump co-opted the EPA by staffing it with industry lobbyists.  The effects are widespread and insidious. Great reporting from The Guardian.

The Tubman $20 Bill Delayed B/C Trump, Black, Woman:

Mr. Mnuchin, concerned that the president might create an uproar by canceling the new bill altogether, was eager to delay its redesign until Mr. Trump was out of office, some senior Treasury Department officials have said. As a presidential candidate in 2016, Mr. Trump criticized the Obama administration’s plans for the bill.

Trump is obsessed with destroying Everything Obama, regardless of how minor.

The plutocrats love to own the beach and use their money and political friends to keep us off it and away from the mansion of their choice, and they’ve been at it forever. I remember on Long Island they have carved out large swaths of beach the peasants can’t get to on both coasts. The Long Island Parkway was deliberately made truck free to keep the riff raff away from Jones Beach. (Got that one from my dad).

Not sure what “Long Island Parkway” you’re referring to, as this native is 99 percent certain there’s no road by that name. However, there are numerous highways with the “parkway” designation on which commercial traffic has long been banned.
Ah, the legacy of Robert Moses!
Private beachfront property far more common on the north shore and way the hell out in the Hamptons. Most of the beaches on south shore, including Jones Beach and Fire Island, are state parks or owned by the towns in which they’re located.

He might have meant Ocean Parkway. The main highway is the LIE. I’m not sure who would want to go to Jones Beach anyway, unless one is looking for medical waste which washes up on the shore. As far as North Shore goes, there it’s all rock and no sand. I’m not aware of any decent beach on North Shore.

    • mediawatch says:

You’re right. Probably Ocean Parkway. When I was a kid, I don’t think it had a name. It was just the road from Captree to Jones Beach.
Agree that the North Shore is more rock than beach. Only decent beach I recall up there was at Sunken Meadow State Park.
