Aided by a craven GOP and an inept Democratic opposition, Donald Trump has collected unprecedented powers. Most recently he has given his AG and defense lawyer, Bill Barr, blanket authority to “access and declassify any and all classified information from the country’s dozen and a half intelligence agencies in his quest to “investigate the investigators” of the Russia scandal.”
On the heels of that act, the GOP has amplified its characterization of the investigation as a treasonous coup attempt.
Disgusting times we live in or what? The system has failed repeatedly, and all it took was a complicit Republican party to enable a president with all the instincts of a dictator.
I’ve always said that the veneer of representative government was only millimetres thick on top of the GOP’s true self. That is you scratched any random Republican you would reveal a totalitarian.
I always thought I was employing hyperbole.
