Debate 2 – Day 1 Results

Filed in National by on July 30, 2019

It may sound pollyannish of me to say, but I think everyone (except Klobuchar) did a pretty good job. Oh, the moderators were terrible. Why can’t anyone ask a question that isn’t a reworded GOP talking point?

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock Helped himself. A younger better Biden.

South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg A very solid performance.

Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney The GOP’s man on the stage allowed everyone else to look good when beating him up.

Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper. A little old for this, but okay.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar No comment

Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke. He is good. I can see how he got so close to Cruz.

Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan I shouldn’t but I like this guy. He wants an industrial policy which is something I’ve been interested in for a long time.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders The Senator was in great form.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to put this in the dumb-downed vernacular of the news media, she won.

Author Marianne Williamson. You hate to admit it to yourself, but you have to agree with her more often than not.

  1. I thought Hickenlooper was terrible. I lump him with Delaney in the sense that they might as well be R’s.

What pissed me off was that, during the healthcare debate, the moderator kept pushing the phony meme that Medicare For All would raise taxes on the middle class when, over and over again, Warren pointed out that healthcare costs would decrease precipitously under her proposal, and that everybody but the wealthy and the corporations would pay less.

I agree that Warren won. It’s time that she ends up on the same stage as Biden. Bernie was great, too.

Yeah, that was particularly bad moderating. “Tell us why you disagree with Sanders and Warren?” was basically every other question.

      • Right. They kept trying to drive that wedge. I (unfortunately) caught some of the pre-debate chatter on CNN. It was Morning Joe ‘flaming moderation’ stuff.

  2. El Somnambulo says:

I turn on MSNBC, and it’s Chris Matthews and Claire Bleeping McCaskill.

Jee-zus, right out of the box, Matthews mischaracterizes Warren’s position on healthcare. I turned it off. Just can’t take it.

Had a few folks over for the debate and margaritas. When Williamson was on my neighbor said “oh the crazy lady is on let me run to the bathroom”
