Something to do

DL alumni, Nemski, runs a “crime fiction” short story reading series called “Noir at the Bar.” It’s good. I’ve been twice. One time Donviti read some of his fiction. It was good.

I think it would be more interesting to get drunk and try and solve real crimes. For instance, the body of a woman was found a few weeks ago near the AL O Plant Bridge (the morning of the Rolling Stones concert in Philly) . Her car was found parked at Hagley. Could she really have made it all the way to the tidal flats of the Brandywine from Hagley. I checked and there were thunderstorms the previous day, but still.
There is an ongoing death investigation according to the Delaware State Police, but no information has been released as of yet. Apparently this woman was connected to the well-to-do Greenville set and had planed (according to her Facebook page) to attend the Rolling Stones concert the evening she was found.

“Could she really have made it all the way to the tidal flats of the Brandywine from Hagley.”

Yes, especially if the creek was running high.

You are in desperate need of a hobby.

  3. RSE says:

Im not so sure about that. Many obstacles. If the body had miraculously traveled that far without getting hung up on something, it would have sustained much damage. The investigators would probably already know if this was the case but they haven’t released any information yet.

There is a park that is known for drug dealing and other criminal acts right on the creek next to where the deceased was found….I’m just looking at Google Maps….There is also another park on the opposite side of the Brandywine that is close and has a small road that literaly ends at the creek just upstream from where she was found.

I have more information but it would not be appropriate to post on a public forum.

    “Many obstacles.”

Not if the creek is running high.

“I have more information but it would not be appropriate to post on a public forum.”

Then why are you posting on a public forum? You’re already intimating that either she was buying drugs (unlikely based on where she parked) or that someone abducted her and dumped her where she was found. You can’t libel a dead person, but you’re sure dragging her through the mud.

As I said, you need a hobby. Or a better one than this.

    • RSE says:

I’m not “intimating” anything, I’m simply pointing out the lay of the land as seen from Google Maps, it’s more interesting to me than “crime fiction”, which is the topic of this thread. And as far as “dragging her through the mud” -bad choice of words if you ask me, I think she deserves a solid investigation.

      • Alby says:

And there’s no indication she’s not the subject of an investigation — indeed, you yourself know she is.

The police in Delaware do not have to give out any information, ever, at any point in an investigation. If you want something to do, rail against that.

  5. RSE says:

The overwhelming conclusions to the type of investigation that I mentioned turn out to be just unfortunate circumstances , but some of them could be Columbo, or better yet Wallander style crime fiction, at times.

  6. Alby says:

So the long and short of it is you hijacked Jason’s thread to tell everybody that you prefer speculating about true crime to reading crime fiction.

The only thing that links those two pastimes is the word “crime.”

I’m dead serious about the police thing. When I started my Delaware journalism career 40 years ago, the Newark police would hand over their log of police reports for me to go through. That changed in the ’80s, during the first FOIA push, which Delaware officials reacted to calls for greater transparency by making it less transparent.

See, this is the problem with the two-party system: Republicans are NEVER interested in greater transparency, unless they’re out of power. Once in power, they’re not interested. And the supposed party of the average person, the Democrats, are so fucking crooked they screw their pants on. So the cops get to do whatever they want.

  7. RSE says:

I would like to clarify that the other “information” I have, can be obtained by anybody, it just points out specific information like addresses.
