BREAKING: Poppiti To Challenge Karen Hartley-Nagle For NCC Council President

Filed in Delaware by on October 16, 2019

Ciro Poppiti III tonight announced that he would primary the embarrassing Karen Hartley-Nagle for the D nomination for New Castle County President. He made the announcement at the NCC Democratic Executive Committee meeting.  Poppiti has served as the NCC Register Of Wills since 2010. He ran for Lt. Governor in 2016, and finished 4th in the 6-candidate field. (I voted for him.) He serves as the Treasurer for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and is chair of Delaware All-State Theatre. He is also an expert on Italian wines. That may mean nothing to you, but it means something to me.

Salesianum, St. Anthony’s, familiar name in Democratic circles — that means a lot to a lot of people.

Teen movie star, onetime News Journal Academic All-Star (1989) — may mean nothing to you, but it means something to me.

Caneco, now Poppiti, the Italians are coming for the Council. I can smell the good food from here….

  3. Nancy Willing says:

Mediawatch are you saying Ciro was a teen movie star? How did I miss that.

  4. nathan arizona says:

Ciro was also in the teen movie “Lucas.” Fellow cast members Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen did not go on to run for office.

  5. Hmmmmm says:

I’d vote for a ball of cat hair over KHN, so Poppiti works just fine for me.

  6. Ciro is an outstanding individual and will be a fantastic NCCC President. Tenui nec dimittam.

Hey lost very handily to BHL in the 2016 primary. He even finished behind Park City and Sherry in that race. What does that say about his ability to run a solid campaign and actually win? I do have some legitimate concerns about that.

    • Thank you for your ‘legitimate concerns’. You are aware, aren’t you, that Lieutenant Governor is a statewide race? Poppiti has run three times countywide in NCC and has won. He won’t have to introduce himself to county voters.

Oh, and he ran even with Park City Kathy, who went on to be elected statewide. He got more votes on Primary Day than Kathy, but finished behind her due to absentee ballots.

Oh, and he’s running against an utterly incompetent elected official who pretty much EVERYBODY wants to see out of office.

While there is no guarantee that Poppiti will win, I can assure you that your concern is misplaced. If, indeed, it IS concern.

      • Pointer Outer says:

You are aware, aren’t you, that Ciro lost NCC in 2016 to candidates in that race who had never run anything close to a countywide race in NCC before. He has never run a competitive race in NCC. The only competitive race he ran in, he lost terribly. Winning a race where you are unopposed doesn’t mean you have name recognition and a good campaign organization. You should know that.

        • Alby says:

This time he’s running against an actual idiot who is backed by a few old crooked Democrats. His only disadvantage, assuming nobody else joins the race, is that uninformed voters don’t realize she’s a disaster.

Is it a gimme for Ciro? No. But he’s not running against Elizabeth Warren here.

Your concern about “competitive races” is a bit misplaced, in that we have very few of them in this state. There is no reason to believe that this will be a particularly competitive race, as you’ll notice that KHN rarely gets her name in the media these days, unless it’s being pointed out what an idiot she is.

This should help. In gearing up for a discussion at leg hall about giving us an DE Office of Inspector General, I am soon going to post this unanswered email sent to AG Jennings two weeks ago requesting that DOJ review the new evidence (the cancelled checks) that were brought forward by Patrick Jones, the person who wants his $60 thousand dollars back from KHN. Her claim that she loaned herself increments of cash in 2016 is full of holes and i mean to ensure that Jennings apparent lack of interest in pursuing this gets plenty of public attention as it matches the sluggish responses of Denn at the time and then Elections Commission Manlove.

Why isn’t DOJ even responding to the email? I certainly want to generate some protest on Jennings’ silence here. Manlove claimed there was a dept. “rule” where politician’s loans to their campaigns will never be investigated. Manlove was pressured to come up with this rule in writing and she finally admitted there was no such actual rule but it was a practice.

    Dear Ms. Jennings,

I’m writing to request another look into the alleged campaign finance violations and or violations of state law regarding personal loans Karen Hartley-Nagle made to herself during her run for New Castle County Council President. Delaware Campaign Finance Laws are clear regarding personal loans to self, and it is clear KHN may have violated those laws.

Mr. Irwin of your office visited Nancy Willing to discuss and collect evidence that Ms. Hartley-Nagle loaned herself monies that where actually funded to her by Patrick Jones. Nancy Willing also made an inquiry to the Elections Commissioner and was told personal loans are not investigated? The campaign finance reports are available online to view. The reports show an excess of $33,000 loaned??

Since the original meeting with Mr. Irwin, Ms. Willing has obtained copies of the cancelled checks Patrick Jones loaned to KHN.The media has also reported on this, yet, the DOJ has not investigated this matter?

This is an very simple case to investigate, Ms. Hartley-Nagle can easily prove by bank statements that the money she loaned herself was from her personal income/savings and should be willing to do so to clear her name from any speculation of wrong doing. KHN ran her campaign on bringing public transparency and trust back to NCC.

It is now 2019 and the statue may be close to running out on this matter, it is crucial the integrity of Delaware that this matter is investigated. Ms. Willing has all the documentation and is cc’d on this email and is available to submit the copies of checks and all documents obtained to your office.

To not investigate this matter is allowing anyone to funnel monies into a political campaign outside the contribution limits and possibly break the law. The taxpayers of Delaware deserve answers on this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Cheryl Mcdonaugh “

I’d look for the old “get another person to run to split the vote” tactic that KWS rode to a second term. What is Dennis Williams doing these days?
