Nobody is really defending Trump anymore, they are defending their own bad choices and low character
You may have a strident Trump “supporter” in your life. I’d encourage you to have some empathy for them. As they parrot Laura Ingram and other Fox News personalities, they aren’t defending Trump at this point. They are defending themselves against the grim reality that they are gullible dummies and racist losers who have been taken in by a second rate swindler.
Even the least self-aware Trumper at this point knows that Trump is indefensible. So what appears to be continuing Trump support is really nothing more that a last ditch grasp at dignity and self-respect.
Do know one Trump lover who was a vocal fan of the man with the fake tan, he has gone silent and essentially does not comment anymore. As noted they don’t admit that they were wrong or were taken in by a con man. I believe the investigation is hitting home at this point for all but the born again cult members, and that the Republicans talking points and defense of Trump ring extremely hollow to most.
A hallmark of a 45 supporter is the inability to self reflect and admit being wrong about anything. I bet most of them make their families miserable. Most are bitter uneducated, unaccomplished, racist rubes who see 45’s behavior as a validation of their own ugliness
