Song of the Day 11/30: Hiss Golden Messenger, “Saturday’s Song”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on November 30, 2019

Hiss Golden Messenger — singer-songwriter M.C. Taylor, guitarist Scott Hirsch and lots of guest musicians who change from album to album — have been turning out beautifully crafted Southern folk-rock (or Americana if you prefer) for a decade now without really breaking through. It’s not for lack of trying — Taylor has released 11 albums in that decade (see El Somnambulo’s fave tunes for a song from their latest, released in September). This one’s from their major-label debut, 2014’s “Lateness of Dancers.” While most Saturday songs are raucous, Taylor’s rumination on cutting loose at the end of the week is also tinged with the regret of Sunday morning.

Unlike Mayo Pete, this is good for you. More good music less Buttigieg. Wholesome.
