With Joe, Bernie, Nancy and Chuck now more relevant then ever. Having said that still no interest in Mayo Pete.

  2. RSE says:

We are becoming a face value mentality world. It’s why most people can’t name one single Canadian prime minister except the current good looking one. It’s like utopian sci-fi. Do I like it?…I don’t even know, but it’s getting weird .

Most people can’t even name the current president of Mexico. So what? I mean Jeezus — most Americans can’t be bothered to learn about their own government, now you’re lamenting that they don’t know anything about anyone else’s either?

AMLO is the absolute jewel of the hemisphere. 🙂

Becuase we don’t have a meritocracy here, RSE thinks rising by merit isn’t a thing anywhere.

    • Alby says:

The USA’s problem is that it only elects celebrities at the national level.

Consider Trump, who knows nothing about politics he hasn’t seen on TV, so he filled his cabinet mostly with guys whose names he was familiar with or, as in Tillerson’s case, guys he thought “looked right” for their roles.

Why is Biden winning? Because he’s the most familiar celebrity, the one people have seen the most on TV for the longest.

  5. Windowpane says:

Alby, how was Obama a national celebrity? He was an obscure 2 year Senator with no voting record. So much for your theory.

  6. Windowpane says:

Still not a celebrity before the campaign.

    • Alby says:

Look it up. “Dreams From My Father” was reissued in 2004. He started his campaign in 2007.

The campaign followed the book, not the other way around. The invitation to speak at the 2004 convention followed the book.

He certainly wasn’t “obscure.” Jimmy Carter was obscure.

  7. Windowpane says:

In 2007 everyone thought it was going to be Rudy and Hillary, then Obama fell from the sky and usurped her. Again….obscure until then.

    • Alby says:

“Fell from the sky”? “Everyone thought”? You’re clearly wrong about this. As I said, look it up.

Or are you just doing this to be a contrarian? Or a dick? Because so far you haven’t offered anything but your own mistaken impressions.

  8. Windowpane says:

Deny that Hillary was the presumed nominee? Don’t make me laugh.

  9. Windowpane says:

My point is Obama wasn’t on the radar in 2007. The Clinton’s were and they were sucking all the oxygen out of the room.

    • Alby says:

You simply are wrong. He was on TV quite a bit peddling his book. You could look this up, but you’d rather just argue from your own ignorance. If you want to stick around you’ll have to do better.

Trump wasn’t “on the radar” in politics in 2015, either. Like Obama his celebrity wasn’t due to cable TV political shows.

You seem to be mistaking “conventional pundit wisdom as the favorite” for celebrity — that is, being known to people who rarely pay attention to politics.

  10. Windowpane says:

Trump was a star in 2015 and he came down the escalator on June 16. Some much for your argument to the contrary. And to even attempt to equate the same celebrity status to the two of them at that stage of the race is ludicrous. You won’t back down and never will. It is your MO. You’re a bully and try to drive everyone with your acid tongue and keyboard. That is why all the women, except Nancy and mouse left this site. You don’t intimidate me. I stand up to bullies and enjoy the jousting.

    • Alby says:

My argument wasn’t to the contrary. You’re too stupid to even understand what you read — but given the type of typos you make, it should be expected.

      Go joust somewhere else. Buh-bye.

  11. Bane says:

Just because he wasn’t around as long as Hillary does make him any less of a celebrity. Calling him obscure during that time period silly
