2019 – A year in the life of a Park City Debutante

There were probably many more Park City Kathy stories this year.  I picked a few that included her name in the headline, and one that doesn’t mention her, but discusses a Democratic Party that allows a Park City Deb to float to the top.     January Is Park City Kathy going to be as execrable […]

Song of the Day 12/23: The Philadelphia Orchestra, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 23, 2019 0 Comments

In 1962 the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy recorded “The Glorious Sound of Christmas,” setting a standard for orchestral Christmas music that has never been exceeded — the LP went gold by the following Christmas, making it one of the fastest-selling classical records in history, and has never been out of print. The lush strings […]

Top Posts of 2019

With a new corps of Democratic activists unwilling to quietly “wait their turn” in electoral politics, it was a busy ramp-up to an important election-year.  So it is no wonder that so many popular posts dealt with who was running an why.

Song of the Day 12/22: Sufjan Stevens, “Only at Christmastime”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 22, 2019 0 Comments

Nobody, not even the prolific Johnny Marx, has written more Christmas songs than multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens, who has released two Christmas albums, each consisting of more than 50 tunes on five EP-length discs. It’s not all new material — a lot of covers of traditional carols are mixed in with Stevens’ originals. The first, “Songs […]

How Trump Judges Will Influence The Courts For Decades.  I didn’t want to read this, wish I hadn’t. Chris, how many of these judges did you vote for in the interest of bipartisanship? Do you think that even one of these judges gives two shits about the equitable distribution of justice? But I guess it’s […]

Song of the Day 12/21: The Drifters, “White Christmas”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 21, 2019 0 Comments

Did you know that there was one version of this song — out of the more than 500 that have been recorded — that angered composer Irving Berlin so much he waged a campaign to get it banned from radio stations? No, it wasn’t this one, which was a hit for the original Drifters in […]

Clean Energy Stiffed In Budget Deal.  Compromise, Chris Coons-style. It sucks. Christianity Today’s Editorial Calling For Trump’s Removal: But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is […]

Donald Jehosephat Trump is a fucking idiot

Donald Jehosephat Trump is a fucking idiot

Do you know how easy it would have been for Trump to be 51% popular? So, fucking easy. If he mixed in one normal “bipartisan” sounding observation for every 20 “red meat for the base” bullshit statement, the press would treat the normal observation like gold.

You can just picture Democrats like Coons racing to be the first in front of a TV camera to give him a rusty trombone if Trump said something remotely Presidential sounding.

SO…In addition to being a criminal and a scumbag, Trump is an idiot. A fucking stone-cold dummy.

That’s all I’m sayin’.

Song of the Day 12/20: The Piano Guys, “I Saw Three Ships”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 20, 2019 0 Comments

The era of audio-only music might have ended with MTV, but we’re now into an age in which viral video is the best way to break into the music business. The Piano Guys — four middle-aged dudes who stumbled into YouTube stardom by making videos to advertise a music store — are a perfect example. […]

Where Did Trump Get That Ukraine Meddling Theory? Um, Putin. Almost from the moment he took office, President Trump seized on a theory that troubled his senior aides: Ukraine, he told them on many occasions, had tried to stop him from winning the White House. After meeting privately in July 2017 with Russian President Vladimir […]

Song of the Day 12/19: The Kinks, “Father Christmas”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 19, 2019 2 Comments

The best punk Christmas song, period. There are other punk-style efforts, but they just sound like punk songs with a few words about the holiday. Ray Davies, as usual, had more in mind, so you get punk energy, a singable melody and sympathy for the poor kids reduced to mugging a department-store Santa in this […]
