The Virginia Gun Rally.  On MLK Day, no less:

Along with mainstream gun-rights activists, the event is also expected to attract white supremacists, members of antigovernment militias and other extremists, stoking fears of the sort of violence that left one person dead and some two dozen others injured in 2017 during a far-right rally in Charlottesville, about an hour’s drive from Richmond.

How is it that the Va. governor and D legislators can pass gun control legislation despite of these rallies, but Delaware ‘leaders’ cower before the dead-enders? No, really, I want to know.

How Many Cops Does It Take To Arrest A Subway Rider Who Has His Hands Up?  This is what happens when NYC MTA decides to spend, wait for it, $249 mill for more transit cops instead of, oh I don’t know, upgrading the subways.

Trump Disses Proposed Seawall To Protect New York While Planning Seawalls To Protect His Golf Resort In Ireland.  What can I say?

‘A Great People Repellent’.  Larry David wears MAGA hat in first episode of the new season of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’. You can make a case for him being the funniest person ever.

Racist Policies Create Urban ‘Heat Islands’.  Sometimes as much as a 20-degree difference in some urban areas.

It is mostly lower-income households and communities of color who live in these urban “heat islands” which have historically had fewer green spaces and tree canopy, and more concrete and pavements and thus are less equipped to cope with the mounting effects of global heating.

Would now be the right time to once again point out that Mayor Mike stole money earmarked for these neighborhoods and gifted it to Buccini/Pollin for luxury high-rises? Why isn’t City Council screaming bloody murder about this?  Why isn’t someone suing his/their asses? I mean, how much of that stolen lucre would it cost to help create some tree canopies and green space?

What do you want to talk about?

In February of 2019 Yahim Harris was shot four times in the chest by a killer cop. For the last 8 months he’s been sitting in a cell.

Celebrate the great legacy of King. Plus I’ll be there.

If human needs like housing, medical care and employment were rights, instead of profit centers, how many police would we need?

      • Alby says:

It’s not so much that police are necessary but that they carry handguns. People with guns tend to think that guns solve problems.

It’s not simply a matter of providing for those in need. There are thieves at every class level of society. Would that we hired police to patrol the economy as readily as we hire them to patrol the city.

BTW, I strongly disagree with you that “employment” is a human right — or need, for that matter.

I would assume that the majority of the 2nd amendment people protesting the proposed new gun laws in Virginia do not welcome the hate groups that are reportedly in attendance. Why would they? It only hurts their cause in the court of public opinion, wouldn’t it?
This brings up the questions as to why these neo-nazis, white supremacists etc. would even be there? I wouldn’t think there would be much money in being a white supremacy leader, but there could be money in being a white supremacy leader who takes secret money from forces who could politically benefit from the unrest.

Even lawful assembly of a bunch of armed gun lovers is not a strong argument for the continued legality of arming a bunch of gun lovers.

Showing up armed is an attempt at intimidation, pure and simple, as gun opponents are not going to be armed themselves.

I have no problem with self-defense. I have a big problem with weapons of military design, which are offensive, not defensive in nature.

So if you’re talking about PR value, why don’t people who want guns for legitimate anti-crime self defense cut loose the crazies who stockpile guns for a race war? Ban the military weapons and they’d get everything else they want. But they can’t do it, because it’s not a true grassroots effort — it’s funded by the gun lobby.
