AG Vs. Cops: Kathleen Jennings represents an existential threat to the ongoing criminality of the police.  Their latest cause celebre? She’s not gonna prosecute the protesters in Camden.  The cops make no mention of illegally arresting a Black journalist who was just doing his job.  They see themselves as above the law because they have always been allowed to operate above the law. Especially when it comes to inflicting their brand of justice on people of color.

‘Education’ Secretary Reroutes Funds From Public Schools To Private Schools. She literally ‘reimagines’ the language in the CARES Act specifying that funds are to be used for public education.  Someday, we’ll find out a lot more about DeVos and her continuing attempts to destroy public schools. She is the worst possible Secretary of Education Trump could have come up with–on purpose.

Site Of Trump Mega-Church Rally Gets ‘Cease And Desist’ Order.  Too little, too late. Phoenix’ mayor should have insisted on enforcement of the masks-required order.  But didn’t out of deference to Trump.

Texas Testing Sites To Remain Open–For Two More Weeks.  Those run by the Feds, I mean.  Let’s be honest, this was another political move designed to help Trump in a state where he is at risk.  Of all of Trump’s multiple failures on the coronavirus, his decision to have the federal government serve merely as backup to the patchwork quilt plans of 50 states is perhaps the most egregious.

Federal Judge Orders Release Of Children in ICE Detention During Pandemic.  This is for those of you who forgot that children are under detention by ICE.  A crime against humanity.

Another Record Day Of Virus Cases.  Over 45,000 in one day.  Rethug governors shut down bars that never should have been allowed to reopen. This map has become a horror show. Remember, anything in orange and red means that cases are increasing.  Hey, Pence says we flattened the curve (two months ago). So there’s that.

Time For Black Farmers To Stake Their Claim–And Reclaim Their Rights. Didja know that white farmers own 98% of rural farmland. Betcha it doesn’t surprise you, though.  Time for change.

Life In The ‘Confederacy Of California‘.  We’re talking the Antelope Valley, which might as well be in Bull Connor’s Alabama.  A must-read.

Bonini. Again.  I could write an entire ‘Political Weekly’ on this.  But Bonini is a joke. Instead of announcing early and (perhaps) clearing the field, he waited until four other candidates had announced and filed.  Including a fellow R state senator.  Yet Bonini thinks they’ll fall in line behind his candidacy:

Sen. Bonini is set to face several Republicans, including fellow state Sen. Bryant Richardson, in a primary but is hopeful he can win the party nomination without such a contest. A primary before the general election would only help Democrats, he said.

As for what separates him from those other contenders, Sen. Bonini thinks that’s clear: He is the only one with a chance to win the governor’s office. Not only does he have high name recognition, Sen. Bonini said, he has plenty of contributed cash, although he wouldn’t specify where the money came from, noting only it will be in his August campaign finance report.

The problem with that logic is that he has no chance of being elected Governor. 39% is probably a high-water mark, especially with Biden at the top of the ticket this year.  Meaning, his argument is…unpersuasive. And, at best, he has a trail of pissed-off R gubernatorial candidates staring daggers at him. Oh, and he’s lazy.

What do you want to talk about?
