Song of the Day 7/28: Nick Lowe, “Nutted By Reality”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on July 28, 2020

“He had been living in a different world, then he was nutted by reality,” sounds like a perfect description of Donald Trump’s 2020. It’s also appropriate for Trump since the first two verses were stolen reapportioned from the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.”

The track appears on Lowe’s 1978 “Jesus of Cool” LP (“Pure Pop for Now People” in the US), his first “solo” album after leaving pub rockers Brinsley Schwarz to hook up with Dave Edmunds. Their band was called Rockpile, but Lowe and Edmunds were on different record labels, so their albums were credited to one or the other; only one official Rockpile album was released while the band was together.
