Song of the Day 7/29: Johnny Cash, “Cry, Cry, Cry”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on July 29, 2020

This was Johnny Cash’s first hit for Sun Records in 1955, when it was the B-side to “Hey, Porter,” the first composition he took to the studio. Unimpressed executives told him to come back with a song that Sun owner Sam Phillips would be able to sell. Cash wrote “Cry! Cry! Cry!” overnight and played it for Phillips the next day.

Its presence here, naturally, relates to the Cretinous Creamsicle’s lament that “nobody likes me.” From the NYTimes:

Noting that Dr. Anthony S. Fauci and Dr. Deborah L. Birx have high approval ratings even as his own have sagged, Mr. Trump added, “And yet, they’re highly thought of — but nobody likes me. It can only be my personality.”

Gee, ya think?
