Strange Web of Gaming Companies Connected to Maggie Jones & Bruce Ennis

Filed in National by on August 31, 2020

Take a look:

Keith Furlong and Frank Cantania are trying to get Maggie Jones in to advance some client’s goals in Delaware.   I think it must be connected to online gaming, but I’m just guessing based on Furlong and Cantania’s web of connections.

I just left a message for Keith Furlong at Catania Gaming Consultants
    (973) 427- 2500. If he calls back and let’s me know who his client is and what their objectives are, I’ll report back here.

  2. jason330 says:

Also, my ip has been blocked at Catania Consulting Group which I find hilarious.

Building Stronger Communities is hitting mailboxes today with a mailer that links Jones to Biden and Obama while linking Matt Meyer to Trump.

They have lots of money. But from where? Who is funding this attack on Meyer? Was dragging Ennis into it just a lazy piece of window dressing?

Still no call back from Furlong. If anyone else wants to try and find out who is trying to influence this election from New Jersey – his phone number is (973) 427- 2500

  4. jason330 says:

And anyway, what does New Castle County have to do with gaming? this whole thing is fishy AF.

Doesn’t some cub reporter at the NJ want to win a pulitzer?

  5. Alby says:

This is pretty much what you should expect from a fake Democrat. Republicans are lying sacks of shit — so much so that some of them deny being Republicans.

  6. Alby says:

That mailer is a real piece of work.

The ethics complaint filed by a NCCo police officer against Meyer — given an airing without further investigation by WDEL — was filed less than a month ago.

The other two complaints about Meyer were filed in July, again by people covered by public service unions.

All the NCCo police officers in my area have Jones signs up. Jones is clearly the candidate of county government unions.

Matt Meyer hasn’t given the police union the pay raise it wants.

    Coincidence? What do you think?

Also, the quotes from Biden and Obama have not a single thing to do with Maggie Jones. They are made to look like endorsements when they are not.

People who employ this kind of sleaze to get elected are, by definition, not trustworthy.

    • Alby says:

Also, too, the mailer says, “Learn more about Building Stronger Communities at elections.delaware.gov” — but if you go there you get the Department of Elections cover page. I searched several ways without finding any listing of Building Stronger Communities in any capacity.

      Postmarked New Brunswick, N.J.

  7. Alby says:

One final note: If the Jones people had any brains, they would seize on Meyer’s claim back in July that “the schools must reopen.” He was pitching a test-all-students demand that has no hope of being met, but it was in the service of that statement. Then he claimed reopening schools was a necessity not just because students would “fall behind” (as if they could never catch up) but because their parents have to go back to work.

That indicates he is putting the economy ahead of public safety. Just my opinion, but that moves me away from Meyer a lot more than the fact that he’s made enemies among the public-sector unions.

  8. Abe Lister says:

Egads, is this the end of your tacit approval of Bruce Ennis for the last 13 years?

Literally ANYONE would have been better than him, but you couldn’t see past the party line, election after election.

So, who gets the D nod in the primary?

    • Alby says:

No, not literally anyone. Any Republican, for example, would be worse.

      • Abe Lister says:

Nope. Literally, ANYONE. Inanimate objects as well.

Bruce is useless. Nothing more than a D turd in the litterbox.

        • Jason330 says:

No, not literally anyone. Any Republican, for example, would be FAR worse.

          • Abe Lister says:

Really? So Joanne Christian, Scott Unruh or Carl Pace would have been the end of Delaware as we know it? Really. Really? REALLY?

Bruce has been suckling the teat of the taxpayer for minimal effort. He is your tar baby and you’ll never get him unstuck.

But come back to the original question—> Who gets the D nod in the primary?

Any truth to the rumor that the state party deliberately entered the third candidate to split the primary challenge vote and keep useless Bruce as the fine shiny paperweight he is?

            • Alby says:

Never said they would be the end of Delaware as we know it. If you need a straw man to attack, you’ve got nothin’.

Neither know nor care about the answer to your question.

Try to keep this straight: The Democratic Party, particularly the Delaware Democratic Party, sucks. The Republican Party, particularly the Delaware Republican Party, sucks much worse.

You’re clearly a Republican, so you can fuck all the way off.

              • jason330 says:

                ^this checks out.

              • Abe Lister says:

Sadly, for you, I’m not a registered anything. I like to hold my punches for the right nose. Or the left nose.

Either way, I’m game if there’s noses.

              • Alby says:

I apologize for my incorrect conclusion. A pox on both their houses is much more acceptable to me.

FWIW, I agree with you about the uselessness, or worse, of Ennis. So do the others here, so your assumption that we “back” him is off the mark.

The problem with looking at each election as individual vs. individual is that power in Dover is determined not merely by party, but by which party, and which faction of each party, an individual is part of.

              • Abe Lister says:

The party has to own the shame of Bruce Ennis, all 13 gay-hating gun-loving years of him sitting in that seat. I know that one very promising early candidate for the D nod was asked to step out this year, with the promise that the party would support their run later. If that is not “backing” Bruce, I don’t know what would qualify. They had a solid and likely winner with a pretty new face. Even if they lost with the changeup, there would have been honor. Instead they chose the fetid shamburger splotched on the paper plate. The only guy who naps more than Bruce is Earl.

              • There are two pretty promising candidates in the primary. Problem is, they’ll split the vote. There was the Appo school board member, but she was not urged to stay out of the race, but decided that the school board race was just too close to the primary.

There’s no guarantee what this district will look like after reapportionment. There’s no guarantee if the current Senate leadership will remain intact. It sure won’t if Marie Pinkney defeats Dave McBride.

Meaning, any ‘promises’ were empty promises.

Oh, and the ‘party’ doesn’t have to ‘own the shame’. The current state chair openly supports contested primaries–to the point that there are some elected officials who won’t even talk to him. I betcha that McBride is one of them.

              • Alby says:

We are not the Democratic Party. Their backing of Ennis is entirely separate.

  9. Abe Lister says:

Okeydokey. Let’s flip it for a second. Who will the ultimate 14th “D” face….Pugh or Baker? Does it matter?

    • It doesn’t matter. Apparently Pugh is the ‘establishment’ choice, although I’m not even sure who constitutes the R establishment any more. Both are Trumpsters in good standing.

The district is no longer the bastion for rural D’s that it once was. The next senator will be to the left of Ennis, as the D registration numbers are strong…IF that is, this district survives redistricting. All I can say is–ANYBODY but Lumpy Carson. He DOES nap more than Ennis. Drinks more, too.

      • Abe Lister says:

Haha….good point. I know that MOT new suburbanites are about fed up with sloppy drunks from Smyrna calling in election favors from fat firehall dickwads and connected farmer “land barons”.

Old Boy Delaware is about to be wiped off the map.

  10. Nancy Willing says:

Have any DL writers cracked open Meyer’s campaign finance reports for this election (2017 – 2020)? Seriously. You should.

  11. Calvin Sparks says:

This race is ridiculous! It is obvious that Jones is an the pocket of special interest. I live in Kent and cannot vote either way in this race, but It does seem that Maggie Jones has some unscrupulous allies

  12. Alby says:

There might be a different angle to view this from: What if they’re not so much trying to elect Maggie as defeat Matt Meyer? That is, what might make Meyer a roadblock to something they want?

    • It’s all about going after Meyer. No doubt they (cops, construction trades, Gordon hangers-on) sought to recruit someone with more name recognition, but Jones is merely the vessel to defeat Meyer, albeit more empty than most vessels.

      • SussexWatcher says:

I have wondered how much this is not so much a Stop Meyer Movement, but a Stop Meyer Now While We Still Can Movement. Are the gambling interests and the like that terrified that he’s going to go after Woodburn in 2026? He’d have a heck of a shot at beating BHL and McG. They’d carry Kent and Sussex and he’d theoretically sweep NC.

Also: You’d have thought that the conservative cops would have at least recruited a GOP placeholder as a backup opponent if Jones fails. There’s no Republican running and it’s too late to appoint one. This is their only shot.

        • Alby says:

Interesting theory. I’m not sure how much support Meyer actually has — my impression is that people are just relieved that the constant drama of the Gordon administrations has gone away.

        • Jason330 says:

The Dem primary is the election. Similar shitheads tried to pull the same thing against Lynn in Dover. He won the primary handily.
