Song of the Day 3/24: Marvin Gaye, “What’s Going On”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 24, 2021 4 Comments

When Rolling Stone magazine recalculated its 500 greatest albums list last year, giving greater weight to musicians’ opinions and less to the critics, a new No. 1 emerged — Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” his seminal 1971 soul song cycle. And that album literally wouldn’t exist without the title tune. The song was inspired by […]

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Wednesday, March 24, 2021

Tuesday’s Activity Report. You will note that HB 88 (K. Williams) cleared the Business Lapdog Committee.  There was one unfavorable vote on the move to eliminate the training and teen sub-minimum wage. You don’t suppose–that committee member Mike Ramone would engage in yet another conflict-of-interest vote so soon after being exposed as a serial conflict-of-interest […]

In today’s open thread you can click through to read about; the 2nd amendment stifling America’s ability to enjoy guns, Matt Meyer already running for Gov, RIP George Segal (you were great in ‘Just Shoot Me’), and how Lewes will soon be a damp, flood-weary hell hole with people too poor to leave, trapped in knee deep poverty.

But first, the unhinged zealotry of those Psycho-Moderate Dems is becoming impossible to tolerate.

But first, a quick look back at a productive legislative session that took place on March 18.  These bills passed and moved across the Hall to  the opposite chambers:  SB 15; HB 20; and HB 33.  Excellent bills. The fates of HB 20 and HB 33 are likely not in doubt. However, John Carney is […]

Song of the Day 3/22: Jethro Tull, “Locomotive Breath”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 22, 2021 2 Comments

The other day I saw a list of LPs released in 1971, and the phrase “embarrassment of riches” barely scratches the surface. None of them got spun as often among my high school friends as “Aqualung,” the album that ought to have made them a shoo-in for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which […]

Coons’ Super Secret Bipartisan Caucus has rebranded.

A bipartisan gang wants to nix one of the Senate’s defining features:its dysfunction

In plain English: Susan Collins is gearing to pretend that she will break with the GOP and Coons is setting the stage to compromise his mother fucking ass off.

New York (CNN Business)Former President Donald Trump is coming back to social media — but this time with his own network, a Trump spokesperson told Fox News on Sunday.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Via Mcsweeneys, here is a handy editorial template for every time a white person commits an atrocious crime:

Neighbors have described [generic white guy name] as [another word for “quiet”], and [list of glowing attributes that make you seriously question their judgment] who they could not have imagined would be capable of [atrocious racially and/or sexually motivated crime people with his exact profile commit at alarming rates].

The Covid “Long Haul” is no joke.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kent Taylor, the founder and CEO of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain, has died. He was 65. His family and the company said he took his own life Thursday after suffering from symptoms related to COVID-19, including severe tinnitus.

Bourbon Bummed Over Trump’s Duty DooDoo

American whiskey has become collateral damage in Trump-era tariff disputes with Europe, and the business for distillers could become even more painful unless their entanglement in the trans-Atlantic trade fight is resolved soon.

The EU imposed tariffs on American whiskey and other U.S. products in mid-2018 in response to Trump’s decision to slap tariffs on European steel and aluminum.

Happy Nowruz, Bitches!   January 1st is a stupid, arbitrary day to celebrate the new year.
(CNN) — For millions of people across the globe, Nowruz is no small celebration. Think Christmas, New Year’s and Fourth of July combined — and add to it fire festivities, delicious meats, rice and spices, family gatherings, street dances and loud banging on pots. But it’s much more than that, too. Nowruz “promotes values of peace and solidarity between generations and within families,” the United Nations says. It’s a time of reconciliation and neighborliness, “contributing to cultural diversity and friendship among peoples and different communities.”
And we could all use some of that, no matter what it’s called.

Vladimir Putin is demonstrating that he’s just like the fake president he installed in the U.S. — a big baby incapable of running a country on anything but the thuggist terms of a crime boss. Because Joe Biden pointed out that he’s a murderous thug, he’s recalled the Russian ambassador for urgent talks. What’s he […]

I don’t even know where to begin with this post, but given the sheer number of calls, texts and emails I’ve gotten today, I feel like I have to address it. Sometimes, being in elected office is just not fun. Today, unfortunately, is one of those days. For most of the last year I and […]

‘Legislative Ethics’ Doesn’t Have To Be An Oxymoron

Filed in National by on March 20, 2021 6 Comments

Let’s face it:  Only a few legislators habitually behave in an unethical manner.  Recent examples include Trey Paradee/Darius Brown (pushing legislation for his development lawyer brother/openly soliciting contributions from Minquadale garbage dump lobbyists respectively).  Longtime ethical scofflaws include Nicole ‘No Longer’ Poore, Our PAL Val Longhurst and, of course, Mike Ramone. Since the ethics of […]
