Seems Northern Ireland misses the good old days of riots, bombings and general mayhem as nostalgia takes a strange turn. Really disappointed with Japan dumping nuclear wastewater into the sea, sounds like something the Republicans would do. As for getting the hell out of Afghanistan Hoo F*ckin’ Ray, it only took twenty years, a trillion dollars and thousands of deaths to wake the hell up.

Dave Weigel tweeted out a good point this morning:

A fascinating political data point I never hear anybody discuss: Biden’s approval among Democrats in Gallup’s polling has been, so far, as high or higher as GOP support for Trump ever was.

When toting up the Republicans’ structural advantages, people usually leave out the fact that mainstream media almost always adopts the GOP framing on issues. This is why they react so badly on those issues — think trans- and other gender stuff, for example — in which the media adopts liberal framing.

Sorry, I don’t get the connection.

The media made a constant theme of Republicans’ support for Trump. It was never a story — his numbers were in line with own-party support of every president — yet it was a constant story, and a constant buttress for Republicans, who were told daily that all their fellow Republicans were staying in line. The barely subtextual message is “so should you.”

This is an unacknowledged structural advantage for Republicans. See, for example, the media’s attempts to turn a surge in migrant children at the border into a “crisis,” or their failure to feature how much public support there is for progressive programs and Biden’s agenda.

OTOH, the media sometimes adopts certain liberal positions — for example, that racism, sexism and xenophobia are bad — and because conservatives are so accustomed to the refs calling things their way they explode into rage (their only discernible reaction to anything, I realize) about the “biased media” on those issues where it doesn’t.
