Top Lobbyist for ExxonMobil Says Coons Is in Their Pocket
Channel 4 in the UK carried an investigative report from the British branch of Greenpeace based on a sting interview with Keith McCoy, a top lobbyist for ExxonMobil. McCoy spoke frankly to people he thought were headhunters searching for a D.C. lobbyist for a client. He said a lot of things he would never say to a journalist, including a list of 11 senators he called “crucial” to ExxonMobil. That list includes Sen. Chris Coons
During the covert recordings, which have been passed to Channel 4 News, Mr McCoy claims:
* the company secretly fought against legislative action on climate change using third-party organisations
*he lobbied key senators to remove and/or diminish climate change measures from President Biden’s US $2 trillion infrastructure and jobs bill as it proceeds through the legislative process …McCoy names 11 senators who he says are “crucial” to ExxonMobil: Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Senator Joe Manchin, Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Senator Jon Tester, Senator Maggie Hassan, Senator John Barrasso, Senator John Cornyn, Senator Steve Daines, Senator Chris Coons, Senator Mark Kelly and Senator Marco Rubio.
We gave all these senators a chance to respond. All the senators declined to comment. There is no suggestion of illegality.
McCoy also explained his methods:
McCoy likens the approach to lobbying congressmen to the way fishermen target fish, claiming that ExxonMobil puts out “bait” and then “reels in” congressmen on issues like carbon tax, electric vehicles, chemicals, taxation and infrastructure.
Mr McCoy said: “When you have an opportunity to talk to a member of Congress, I liken it to fishing, right? You know you have bait, you throw that bait out. And they say: ‘Oh, you want to talk about infrastructure, yeah.’
“And then you start to reel them in and you start to have these conversations about federal leasing programmes, you start to have these conversations about a carbon tax. You know, it’s all these opportunities that you use and to use the fishing analogy again just to kind of reel them in.”
He added: “I make sure I get them the right information that they need so they look good. And then they help me out. They’re a captive audience. They know they need you. And I need them.”
This report will be dismissed because the Greenpeace journalists lied to the source to get him to talk. You’ll notice this never stops the mainstream media from catapulting whatever shitmeme Project Veritas is peddling into public discourse.
Coons is a weak-minded quisling. It is not at all surprising that a lobbyist would find him to be an easy mark.
Not just Coons but also the hated Joe Manchin, neither was a surprise.
Six of the 11 are Democrats. Maybe the rest of the Republicans are taken care of by BP and Chevron.
So i’m connecting dots here. Watched the video and they said Capito is targeted because she’s ranking member on EPW & Coons because he’s from the same state as Biden. But Carper is EPW Chair and likely closer to Biden. Is it that Carper may have an environmental backbone, Coons is spineless and folds like a cheap suit, or both? 🤔
Good question. Carper has always been a mass-transit guy, if that counts as eco-conscious.
Point of order: I would say that Coons folds more like a dollar-store umbrella — with minimal pressure and often in the wrong direction.
