Dave Alvin singing about a train? Know any better way to kick off a best-of-the-month wrap-up?  I don’t.

This belongs in the pantheon of their very best:

This whole album’s great.  Gild Hall possibility?:

I DARE you not to like this:

Nathan Arizona’s Fave Of The Month?  It’s only 106 seconds long, but it’s a really catchy 106 seconds:

Lots of good stuff here. Maybe I was just in a summery mood, but my two favorites are the mellow and breezy neo-soul songs by Koffee and Greentea Peng –especially the reggae flavor and sweet harmonies of Koffee’s “Gifted.”

The guitars and slight dream-pop feel of Pet Fox’s “It Won’t Last” sound very good. I had kind of lost track of Drive By Truckers, but I really like the dark aura of their latest.

I don’t always like rap, but when I do I like it woozy, so I’m down with “Progressive House, Conservative Ligature” featuring name-of-the-week Fatboi Sharif. I checked out their latest album and didn’t like it much. No, not even “hos on my dick “cuz I look like a drawing of the Prophet Muhammed,” though I’m sure there’s an audience for it somewhere.

I agree that S.G. Goodman would really rock the Gild Hall. You can’t go wrong with Dave Alvin. And I do like the Joy Manor song. To slightly misquote one of my favorite movies (“Soapdish”), there are two things I like, peppy and short.

  2. Yeah, Koffee and Greentea Peng offer real good summery songs. I, too, prefer “Gifted”, but not by much.

I know it’s more mainstream, but I really like the DBT song. Probably my fave of the month.
