Burns v. Ramone

Filed in National by on October 26, 2022

Incumbents are tough to beat but Burns has a shot in the 21st.  This is probably the most competitive race in the state.

We are now 12 days out, so if you can’t help canvas or phone bank, you should all probably donate ($50, $100, $200) to Burns at this point.

I put in $100 just now.

Report back here if you can chip I a little. You don’t have to report the amount, but let’s get 5 NEW donors via DL for Burns today.

  2. He not only has a shot, he has a GREAT shot.

In fact, if he gets the needed resources to carry out the campaign plan ($$’s, and soon), I think he WILL win.

Here’s why. Stephanie Barry came close in 2018, losing by a 52-48 margin. This despite the fact that D’s like Karen Peterson and Melanie George Smith endorsed him. I doubt that any female D legislators, current or former, will be endorsing this anti-choice stalwart now. Not that it would matter. In fact, his failure to protect women’s rights on abortion can, should, (Oxford Comma) and, (Superfluous Comma) I think, (Excessive Comma) will cost him.

Although Stephanie Barry ran a great campaign, Frank’s campaign has Drew Serres helming the ship, and WFP and other grassroots organizations are all in.

Frank Burns is a unique candidate, someone you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to run for office. Ramone’s strategy of dragging down your opponent through sleazy innuendo won’t work with him. Plus, Burns is running on positions that are very politically popular.

    Just look at the current voter registration figures: 8517 D; 5117 R; 5396 I.

I’ve been involved in races like this on both sides–the incumbent trying to hang on against an opponent who has all the momentum. Most recently, in Marie Pinkney’s win over Dave McBride. Yes, this is a general election race vs. a primary, but the dynamics are the same.

The momentum is all in Frank Burns’ favor. Any contributions you could make now could indeed prove to be the difference. (I anted up about a week ago.)

  3. Nancy Willing says:

I just gave $50 and will write up a blog post I have been meaning to do to focus on Ramone’s shitty votes that specifically betrayed his claim to being a moderate. I put something up on Facebook but it has been a while.

Ramone’s buy up of digital footprint ads on the News Journal etc. has been somewhat humorous as it is reminding me of those last gasp desperate ads from KMG. May Mike go down just as hard.

I’m a new contributor. If Nancy is as well, we need three more lurkers to step up and meet our goal of 5 new Burns supporters.

  5. Joe Connor says:

    Done

  6. Chris G says:

    Donated 50. Official lurker here.

  7. jason330 says:

One more. You can be the lurker who puts us over the top.

  8. Al Catraz says:

    Done.

  9. the old prospector says:

    Gave $100 around noon.

  10. jason330 says:

    We did it!

And as a special bonus, you have all been entered to win an invasive ultrasound performed by Lumpy Carson. The drawing will be the day after the election.

  11. jason330 says:

I hope me saying “We did it!” doesn’t discourage anyone from jumping in and supporting Burns. 2x goal is also good.

  12. Ken Howes says:

Just donated $600 to Ramone. Thanks for the reminder!

  13. Paul says:

    I donated.
