Broadcast news covering for right-wingers targeting LGBTQ people

Filed in National by on November 23, 2022

Objective, non-partisan journalism has come to mean lying about right wing extremism by omission.

Broadcast news failed to mention crucial context in coverage of Colorado Springs shooting at LGBTQ nightclub

In the 2 days after the shooting, ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS ran a combined 32 segments, but only 6 mentioned the demonization of LGBTQ people or high rates of violence

A Media Matters review found that national broadcast news largely failed to place the Colorado Springs mass shooting in the context of the concerted right-wing campaign that has been targeting LGBTQ people with violent rhetoric and harmful legislation, and the networks also overwhelmingly failed to report that the community faces disproportionate levels of violence because of this hatred and bigotry.

“Targeting” the LGBT community is self defeating in the long run. At this point we all know gays, lesbians and trans people. They are neighbors, co workers, relatives and friends, and I for one have no problem with any of them. Years ago I heard that 10% of the population is gay, at the time found that to be absurd, now believe that to be be way to low. The now threatened right to gay marriage brought a great many out of the closet, and I love it. Let them be as they are, and for once leave people the hell around.

The press has a collective case of anterograde amnesia. Every morning begins as a blank slate. Nothing is remembered. There is no context. Every act of domestic terrorism is its own thing that happens in a complete vacuum with no context or antecedents.

It is almost as if they are in on the grift.

Dunno honestly, at this point I see the “press” as having deserted journalism and all that implies. Profit uber ales. But as I had stated enough with the gay bashing . As ever the hatred is religious in nature, and a reminder that the “religion of love” is but a sad myth.
