Dave Lawson is old.  Is he the kind of old guy who thinks making $150,000 means you smoke cigars and wear a silk top hat?  Yes.  Is he the kind of old guy who never tips a server more than $1.00, so his family always has to quietly re-tip behind his back?  What do you think?

Sen Lawson Attacks Del Tech Admin for Making over $150K Each

DOVER, Del.- The battle for financial stability continues for Delaware’s teachers and three colleges in the state have recently made their case for more money.

One of them, Delaware Technical Community College, is looking to increase teacher salaries.

Del. Tech Academic Affairs VP, Justina Thomas, said more money would help secure the school’s future.

“We’ve actually been trying to stabilize faculty salaries for some time to remain competitive in the education industry,” said Thomas. “Retention of all of our employees is extremely important to us and we are in the midst, like everyone else, finding ourselves with some vacancies, and in recruitment mode.”

Del. Tech President, Mark Brainard, presented his budget proposal to the Joint Finance Committee earlier this month. The meeting did not go without controversy though.

Senator Dave Lawson (R-Dist. 15), was not quick to hop on board.

“The top eight positions, not including yours Mr. President, comes to about $1.2 million for eight people,” said Sen. Lawson during the meeting. “Is that justifiable?”

New medical marijuana location is the fourth in Sussex County, 11th in state

After it took three years for the number of medical marijuana dispensaries in Sussex County to increase from two to three, it’s only going to be a little more than three months for a fourth option. Fresh Delaware is set to open Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Seaford.

Availability of medical marijuana to the county’s patients has been slow, but steady – First State Compassion opened its Lewes location in May 2017; Columbia Care opened its Rehoboth location in October 2019; and Best Buds opened its Georgetown location in October 2022.

Are the eight people worth it? Kinda depends on who they are, doesn’t it? We already know that what they’re paying Brainard isn’t worth it.

    • In fairness, he’s making chump change compared to Lonnie.

Of course, every other state employee was making chump change compared to Lonnie.

Are they actually trying to increase teacher’s salaries, or are they conveniently referring to administrative positions as “teachers?”

Aside from Brainard, I don’t know whom the other 7 staff members are but like most post-secondary education institutions, it’s the administrative side where the head count/executive salary bloat is while the “teaching” side increasingly relies on slave-wage Adjunct positions to do any actual teaching.

If it was $1.5 million to build ballistic boxes around everyone, he’d be all for it, because mass shootings are just a part of life in America now. Nothing we can do about it.
