‘Bulo’s Fave Tunes: March 2023
A great month of musical discovery, best this year so far:
Didn’t know how to alphabetize artists whose first digits are #’s. So, I just started with this one:
Newsflash: The Beths. Still good:
A roots stalwart working out the lower keys on the piano. He should’a been bigger:
Discovering bands like this is why I do the lists:
Call it folk-primitive, call it whatever, call it GREAT:
No guessing this time. When a song debuts in 2023 that belongs on every Power Pop Mix Tape going forward, we have Nathan Arizona’s Fave Of The Month:
“Ahem, in conclusion, don’t tell me that today’s music is a wasteland. You just gotta listen harder.”
1. Lemon Twigs. You called it. Chiming power-pop forever!
2. That moody, soulful song by 6lack and its great video.
3. GT’s “I Hate Driving in the City.” Short, fast, loud.
4. Lonnie Holley’s “Oh Me, Oh My.” Long, slow, quiet. I like his art, too. The music is probably not for everybody, but Michael Stipe should help.
And a whole lot of honorable mentions. Like you said, a good month.
That Panic Pocket song is a true earworm. I’d be shocked if it doesn’t show up on XPN soon.
I agree. Funny video, too.
Along the same lines, I like both the song and the video from Hello Mary.
BTW, the Lemon Twigs album is set to be released on May 5. Looking for some more power pop gems from them.
