Following up on yesterday’s “Biden is blowing it by chasing ‘the center’ ” story,  today’s open thread is a hasty collection of “Democrats in Array” stories.   Welcome to your end of month, half-assed open thread.   Democrats eye plan to force vote on gun reforms over GOP opposition Claire McCaskill: Democrats need to run on […]

The Mass Shooting at William Henry Middle School in Dover (That Never Happened)

Filed in National by on March 29, 2023 6 Comments

When I moved to Dover Delaware from New Jersey in 1975 I entered  the 5th grade at William Henry Middle school.  I had no idea that from 1952 until 1966 William Henry Middle School was the “William Henry Comprehensive High School”, the only high school for African Americans in Kent County.  A showpiece school opened […]

Only Carney Stands In The Way Of Legalized Marijuana Now

In an historic session, the State Senate passed both HB 1 and HB 2 this afternoon.  Since neither bill was amended in the Senate, they both now await action from the Governor.  The Senate votes were overwhelming, and legislators I’ve talked to believe there’s a veto-proof majority in the House.  I simply cannot overstate the […]

University of Delaware students spend THE MOST in the country for education

Delaware is the most rip-offy rip-off in higher education.

Song of the Day 3/28: Hot Tuna, “Water Song”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, National by on March 28, 2023 1 Comment

A chemical spill into the Delaware River above Philadelphia has led to warnings about the safety of the city’s drinking water, triggering a run on bottled water. “Water Song,” an instrumental by guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, appeared on “Burgers,” Hot Tuna’s third LP and first proper studio recording. Its success convinced Kaukonen and bassist Jack Cassidy […]

We have to appeal to the 5% of voters in “the middle”

Filed in National by on March 28, 2023 1 Comment

It seemed like Biden was breaking away from that toxic bullshit that crippled so many Democratic campaigns and candidates. Sadly, no. What the Heck Is Joe Biden Thinking Lately? After his historic midterm wins, he’s suddenly tacking right. A new hire may be why. Perhaps that’s no surprise: These Obama-style policies have coincided with a […]

Delaware General Assembly Pre-Game Show: Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Will Lucy pull the football away from Charlie Brown yet one more time?  I’ve had some legislators tell me that they believe they have a veto-proof majority in the House should John Carney once again tap into his inner Junior ROTC and veto the two pot bills, both of which are almost certainly gonna pass […]

Lauren Witzke is a disgusting piece of shit. I can say that because the truth is an absolute defense to defamation. Couple sues Lauren Witzke for saying birth of their surrogate twins is ‘human trafficking’ …”Rather than congratulating Plaintiff on one [of] the happiest moments in his life, or perhaps just ignoring Plaintiff’s happy post, […]

Poll Results – 6 in 10 DL readers and lurkers think Senator Chris Coons is the ABSOLUTE worst

Filed in National by on March 27, 2023 13 Comments

Not a surprising result when you consider the fact that Senator Chris Coons likes to show off being horrible, whereas Carper has a more ho-hum, workaday approach to being one of the two worst Blue State Senators in congress.

As for this week’s poll. I’ll be curious to see how Karen Hartley-Nagle fares. Whoever read her the riot act after her constant fuckups early on deserves an award of some sort. I’ve never seen a Delaware politician rescue their viability by simply shutting the fuck up.

Marcus Henry Vs. Karen Hartley-Nagle who do you THINK WILL WIN? Not who do you want to win.

Song of the Day 3/27: Graham Parker, “That’s What They All Say”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on March 27, 2023 1 Comment

This one’s for all the MAGAts who either don’t realize or want to ignore that they’re in a cult. “That’s What They All Say” was the second track on “Heat Treatment,” Parker’s second LP with backing band the Rumour, released in 1976. The tune is usually described as a Dylanesque put-down, but the production by […]

Universities and businesses closed.  Millions in the street…The protests in France and Israel remind me of the all out  (all in?) protests that would have followed Pence caving to Trump and preventing the EC vote count.    If mere “minority rule” turns into something even worse, I suppose we’ll still get our chance.   Tens of […]

Florida student’s ‘discomfort’ causes cancellation of civil rights class Alex Wagner relays reporting of the cancellation of a U.S. government class at Eastern Florida State College after a student felt “discomfort” over a discussion of civil rights, seen as an indication of the successful terrorizing of the Florida academic system by Ron DeSantis even with […]
