I hate most lighting
Republicans think that America has gone to shit. I agree that it has, but not because Mexican drag queens are giving out free abortions & blow job instructions in every elementary school. America has gone to shit because we’ve adopted sterile white light as the standard lighting, which is gross and unsettling.
While we’ve always had some places lit by awful florescent tubes, but these days too bright, and too white lighting is impossible to escape. We ate a new restaurant last week and when my wife asked me how I liked I said it was horrible. The lighting ruined it.
I may be turning into Jimmy McGill’s brother Chuck, or I might be on one side of the bell curve when it comes to lighting but today’s lighting bothers the fuck out of me. There are even rooms in my own home that I don’t like going into because the light is awful. And sadly, it looks like the dial only turns in one direction – toward worse and worse lighting.
The point is that American has adopted “Daylight” (the cold white light).
I may have dragged a red herring across the path when I said “in my own home”. I know I can change the bulbs in some rooms but these LEDs are supposed to last 100 years and I’m a cheapskate.
if youre a cheapskate why make the switch to the leds in the first place?
They were put in by the last owner.
Switch to “warm white” LEDs. Unfortunately a lot of LED bulbs in retail stores are “daylight” or a cold white light. Warmth of the light is measured in Kelvins and labeled on the box, so you can pick out the color warmth you like, or just look for “warm white”. Here’s an explainer.
The thing is, so many people converted to LED for the first time and bought the first thing they saw at the store, which was probably “Daylight” (the cold white light). And LEDs last a long time so those bulbs are still installed.
Also, it helps to get a couple different wattages of bulbs. Maybe your too-bright rooms need to downgrade the wattage of the bulbs. LED bulbs are still labeled in watts according to their old incandescent equivalent for geezers like me who still think of them that way.(even though they only draw single-digit wattage) In my house I have 40 watt equivalent LEDs, 60 watt, and 100 watt, depending on location.
If “the light is awful”, in your own home, that’s on you. As a general rule, seniors need about twice the quantity of light that makes a younger adult feel comfortable. As a senior, I can attest to the truthfulness of this. Also, LEDs are available in a variety of color temperatures. Early LEDs, a cold white, made me feel sad and drepressed. Fortunately warmer temperature LEDs are readily available and in my opinion, successfully mimic the feel of incandescent bulbs, (possibly the gold standard)
Thanks Thoms Edison or Humphrey Davy. Lol jk impressive bulb knowledge is appreciated
