Fait Accomplit

The drama came and went quickly like a summer thunderstorm.  From Carper’s announcement that he had an announcement to make, to quitting, to two candidates basically sewing up their nominations less than 24 hours later.   Per BlueDelaware:

The conventional wisdom has cemented the notion that Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester will run for the Senate to succeed retiring Senator Tom Carper, thus clearly the field of any significant primary challengers, and it also seems very likely that State Senator Sarah McBride will run for Congress to succeed LBR. McBride has a strong enough statewide brand herself in the Democratic Party that she likely can clear the field of any competitive challengers herself.

    I’m rather sad that McBride isn’t taking Carper out by beating him in a primary, but you get what you get.

    Also, once again, the thing that makes this kind of thing possible is the fact that the DEGOP (statewide) is a dead parrot. It has joined the choir invisible.

    Which is nice, even if you chafe at how all of this clicked into place.

    What’s the over/under on when half-Witzke announces her campaign for the House seat?

      Does she even live in Delaware? But yeah, this will be a lucrative grift for some enterprising wingnut scumbag.

      1. mediawatch

        I’m thinking slime, not grift. The kind of stuff that would make the bewitched candidate from 2010 look like an angel.

      If the hand model was there, as reported by REV, he might be gearing up for it. And by gearing up, I mean working up the gumption to eat muskrat in front of some rubes in Sussex.

    “Few Delawareans have left a bigger mark on our small state than Tom Carper. During his four decades in elective office, he’s taken on corruption in politics, expanded access to early childhood education, and worked tirelessly to combat the threat of climate change.

    “As he continues his work in the US Senate over the next year, I know I join with Delawareans up and down the state to say, thank you for your service!”

    Carper signed Delaware’s charter school law in 1995, restoring and validating segregation in our public schools for the foreseeable future.

      Carper has been a corporate democrat thru and thru. He generally does the bidding of big banks and big pharma. Remember his vote last year against raising the minimum wage? Good riddance!

    LBR turns 63 a month after 1/3/25, Not exactly a fresh face. there are plenty of women and women of color in Gen Z and Millennials. There are 6 just on the poll. They should not be summarily dismissed. Who is willing to kick down the door? This old guy will cheer you on!

    What if Matt Meyer decides he’d rather run for Congress than lose to BHL in the gubernatorial primary?

  8. Doug

    Well I guess the party has told you who to vote for in 24. I’m sick and tired of the establishment. Not for me

  9. Jason330

    I don’t know if the party has any power to dictate anything. If McBride’s nomination is sewn up it says more about her as a candidate than it says about the party.

    As for LBR, yeah that’s some Delaware way shit right there. More Carper-dyne, Inc than Dems though.

    I dont get the anointing LBR thing. Shes a back bencher congresswoman who is from the Delaware way BS of the 80s.

    She makes a good speech? Are voters that shallow?

    1. El Somnambulo

      Well, she was in a contested primary for the House seat, and won. I didn’t vote for her. But she had $$’s for TV commercials, one of which was so vapid it made me want to frow up.

      So, in that case, yes, they were that shallow.

    McBride will definitely have a strong campaign but very doubtful she’ll go uncontested.

        The treasurer’s office is a joke that should not exist. Colleen Davis should not be sitting there right now using tax dollars to pay a

        * deputy treasurer
        * chief operating officer
        * special assistant
        * communications director
        * AND policy advisor

        to develop her platform for bigger and better things.

    We are totally overlooking the powerhouse combo for the Senate and House seats to be filled by Hunter Biden and Kathy McGuiness.

    Or vice versa.

    1. El Somnambulo

      Y’know, I worry that Speaker Pete will try to wire that nomination to succeed him for Kathy. Problem is, the RD committee supported Lydia York.
