Blood Money Always Wins

Filed in Featured by on June 6, 2023

In this case, the blood money of Saudi Murderer Mohammed bin Salman, the man behind the killing of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi.

You may recall that bin Salman tried to sportswash Saudi Arabia into international acceptance by backing the LIV golf league, where top golfers were paid obscene guarantees to defect.  You know the league that routinely uses Trump’s golf courses which had been blackballed by the PGA.

Well, Golf is one big happy family again:

In a stunning move after a year of acrimony, the PGA Tour announced Tuesday that it has entered in an agreement with the DP World Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF)—the financial backer of the LIV Golf League—“to unify the game of golf, on a global basis.”

The new entity, still to be named, will end all litigation between the parties.

“After two years of disruption and distraction, this is a historic day for the game we all know and love,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. “This transformational partnership recognizes the immeasurable strength of the PGA Tour’s history, legacy and pro-competitive model and combines with it the DP World Tour and LIV —including the team golf concept—to create an organization that will benefit golf’s players, commercial and charitable partners and fans. Going forward, fans can be confident that we will, collectively, deliver on the promise we’ve always made—to promote competition of the best in professional golf and that we are committed to securing and driving the game’s future.

“We are pleased to move forward, in step with LIV and PIF’s world-class investing experience (aka they bring a shit-ton of money to the table), and I applaud PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan for his vision and collaborative and forward-thinking approach that is not just a solution to the rift in our game, but also a commitment to taking it to new heights. This will engender a new era in global golf, for the better.”

Left unsaid is that LIV was financed by blood money from a murderer and a country that sanctions murder of those who dare to question its rulers.  Doesn’t matter.  Blood money always wins, and the blood on the money gets left off of the press releases.

“to unify the game of golf, on a global basis.”

Now all of pro golf is tainted. Fortunately my golf boycott is still holding.

“to unify the game of golf, on a global basis.” Cool, now I can ignore it on a global basis. It’s a reminder that with enough money you can do as you like anywhere, it’s not just here.

Liv – “tiger well give you a billion dollars, with a B, to come play here”

PGA – “tiger we need a strong showing from the face of golf that the pga is where the best golfers are”

Tiger – “screw you Liv the pga is the best”

PGA – “hey tiger, F you”

“Six months after leaving the White House, Jared Kushner secured a $2 billion investment from a fund led by the Saudi crown prince, a close ally during the Trump administration, despite objections from the fund’s advisers about the merits of the deal.”

The reservations were based in the fact that Kushner had no investing experience.

“Former President Donald Trump’s dealings with Saudi-backed professional golf venture, LIV Golf, is under investigation as part of the U.S. Justice Department’s probe into his handling of classified documents.

The connection between Trump’s relationship with LIV Golf and the broader classified documents investigation being undertaken by federal prosecutors is not yet fully known. What is known is that the LIV golf venture is 93 percent owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund – the same sovereign wealth fund led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that invested $2 billion in a firm controlled by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Trump’s financial dealings with LIV appear to be the subject of at least one of the subpoenas sent to the Trump Organization, as federal prosecutors continue to look closely at the Trump family business.

This year, Trump’s golf courses will host three tournaments for LIV Golf, which the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund is fully underwriting, at Trump courses in New Jersey, Virginia and Florida. This is after Trump hosted the league last year. Neither the Trump Organization, or the Saudi league have disclosed the financial terms of the arrangement.”

This makes me so fucking mad. They’re betting that the majority of the public doesn’t care about this blood money, and unfortunately they’re right.

    • Arthur says:

And what are all those staunch PGA players who supported this going to do besides bend over and take it and ask for another? there is nothing they can do

      • Andrew C says:

Apparently virtually none of them were notified of this huge and consequential merger ahead of time. They all found out through text and Twitter. So kind of you, holier-than-thou PGA.

    • Alby says:

“They’re betting that the majority of the public doesn’t care about this blood money”

I do, but do I have to care about golf?

    • Jean says:

Instead of shouting “baba booey” on the putting green, maybe the hecklers can shout “allah akbar” to remind everyone that they are playing for terrorists

    https://awfulannouncing.com/golf/pga-tour-tv-partners-totally-unaware-liv-golf-merger-fallout.html

“If you were caught off by the news that LIV Golf would be merging with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, then you weren’t alone. Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the PGA Tour, virtually did this on his own accord and did so without informing the players or his television partners for that matter.

As we’ve come to learn the details of the fallout of this announcement, Monahan seems to have informed absolutely no one about Tuesday’s landmark deal. That’s become increasingly clear to just about anybody who’s seen the raw, authentic reactions from the players and the subsequent details or lack thereof that have matriculated from the television partners of the tour. ”

“Now, the whole structure of the golfing calendar could be changed in an instant and none of the television partners remotely had a clue that this was going on or going to happen. Not having a conversation with your TV partners about a landmark deal that you likely knew they could have some opposition to is just absolutely preposterous. But, it’s become increasingly clear that Monahan chased those dollar signs after he chastised professional golfers himself for opting to take the Saudi’s money.

The Saudis now appear to control professional golf. TV providers have no idea what their future holds and neither do those who were loyal to the tour. They now feel betrayed and manipulated, while Monahan’s moral compass has done a complete 180, in order to become the become CEO of all of golf and all the money that likely comes with this jaw-dropping move. How fitting.”

It’s fucking golf. How can anyone be surprised?
