Trump Indicted!!

Several Trump advisers confirmed the charges. Trump, who is the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, said he has been summoned to appear in federal court in Miami on Tuesday at 3 p.m. A seven-count indictment has been filed in federal court naming the former president as a criminal defendant, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a case that has yet to be unsealed.
The charges include illegal retention of government secrets, obstruction of justice and conspiracy, according to people familiar with the matter. It is the second time Trump has been criminally charged since March, when he was indicted in state court in New York on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush-money payments from 2016. Trump, who has denied wrongdoing in both cases, is the only former president ever charged with a crime.
The GOP primary voters knew he was a criminal from the outset. But he seemed to be a criminal that was never touched by consequences. I guess they thought he never would be touched by any. Trump certainly thought that.
A nice tidbit from the NYT:
“In May 2021, the Justice Department used the Espionage Act to charge an F.B.I. intelligence analyst in Dodge City, Kan., with illegally removing classified documents and taking 386 of them to her home. That’s the same charge Trump now faces. The analyst pleaded guilty last year and faces up to 10 years in prison. One of the prosecutors who handled that case was David Raskin, who is advising Jack Smith, the special counsel in the Trump case.”
So you’re saying he could be convicted within a year… will the RNC revoke his nomination while he appeals the verdict and delays the sentencing?
No. The RNC will petition the House and/or the courts to delay the election until the appeals are complete.

I guess we’ll get to see how well Trump’s Whataboutism works as a legal defense.
It’ll be a Florida jury, so I expect jury nullification no matter what the defense.
Which grand jury was it? Isnt there 2 grand juries working on the same thing? How come treason isn’t one of the charges? If he incriminates himself on the stand for other things can that be put on top of the charges or is that a new trial?
What a relief. I guess we won’t hear from this guy ever again.

Is the long wait over? Not until the cell door slams shut. Having said that expecting insane and senile rants form Trump and the slow progress of the law from the prosecutors. And even better the airing of assorted dirty laundry in public. Noticing some Republicans are distancing themselves from Trump, they smell political blood and mean to cash in on it.
Tough to go to your hearing 3 days away when 2 of your attorneys resign

Insanity defense, anyone?
The plainspoken language of the indictment shows Trump to be a simple-minded moron in addition to being a criminal. How anyone can still support his run for office is utterly amazing to me.
“Over the course of his presidency, TRUMP gathered newspapers, press clippings, letters, notes, cards, photographs, official documents, and other materials in cardboard boxes that he kept in the White House. Among the materials TRUMP stored in his boxes were hundreds of classified documents.
The classified documents TRUMP stored in his boxes included information regarding defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries; United States nuclear programs; potential vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies to military attack; and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack,”
I’m convinced that Trump has already used some of those documents for personal gain. As in, Saudis get key info, Trump gets LIV golf tournaments at his golf courses.
He’s always transactional, why WOULDN’T he do something like this?
