Song of the Day 7/26: Aerosmith, “Pink”
The Barbie movie has gotten glowing reviews, but it has created one unfortunate side effect: The garish pink color that shades toward magenta – officially labeled #e0218a by Pantone, and called “Barbie pink” – is suddenly everywhere.
That’s not the pink Steven Tyler was singing about on this cut from the band’s 1997 “Nine Lives” album. The tune is so catchy because it was composed by ’90s pop hitmaker Glen Ballard, and given the subject matter and the band in question the video is as restrained as Aerosmith was ever likely to get. “Pink” reached the top of the Mainstream Rock chart, but only No. 27 on the Hot 100, which demonstrates how far rock had fallen even before this century began.
Fun fact: Mattel didn’t use that color in marketing the doll until the 1970s.

Probably. Haven’t heard them all so I’m not the authority, but this was the best song on it, and it’s awfully poppy for them.
nah. Music From Another Dimension! (2012) is unbearable.
I was a HUGE Aerosmith fan .. I even kinda like 9 Lives (some pretty good songs never made radio play) but fell off the train (kept a rollin) after that last one.
that being said, “Honkin on Bobo” is just covers of blues songs and it’s great.
