At 83-years-old, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in a tweet that she is running for reelection.

“Now more than ever, our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery,” the California Democrat posted on X this morning. “Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote.”

If Pelosi wins another round in the House, she will have plenty of company. While the average age of the current Congress is 58 years old, and 64 years old for the Senate (according to FiscalNote.com), 15 members in total are octogenarians, along with nonagenarian Dianne Feinstein, who tops the charts at age 90.  – Via BoingBoing

Ugh. even though there is no way she could enact it, but nikki haley running on term limits for congress and senate would be a winning campaign. oh yea, add in the supreme court and president

plus this is why they want to continue to raise SS, since their jobs arent too stressful and can work and work and work (and get a helluva pension and benefits)

As noted it’s both a gerontocracy and a country club for rich people in extreme old age. America’s government needs reform badly, but the famed deeply divided nation cannot get it together long enough to do what is right and what is needed. Call it failure or just say the famed “Democracy Takes Time” the result is a nation pulled in different directions and a distinct lack of progress.

Any electorate gets what they deserve with whoever emerges from an election victorious. This is the beauty of democracy.
