Has Your Comment Been Trashed?
I’m seeing several comments in the trash folder that we haven’t deleted.
While that usually means that the writer of the comment trashed it, I’m starting to wonder if the ‘algorithm’ has gone wacky.
If you’re someone who has not been moderated or blacklisted in the past, please LMK here or on our tipline and I’ll activate the comments.
How does a commenter trash their own comment? I wouldn’t know how to do that.
I sometimes post comments that don’t show up. I don’t know if they are in the moderation bin or in the trash bin. Usually it’s because something triggered the anti-spam algorithm – too many links, too much complex formatting, etc.
I don’t care if you fish them out of the bin or not. If I care enough I’ll repost it later with dumbed-down formatting.
When you post a comment, you have a certain amount of time to either edit it or trash it. There’s even a countdown on the time you have to do so.
You’re also correct that, when something runs on and/or there aren’t paragraph breaks, the ‘algorithm’ places them in moderation.
BTW, this is why I’m asking the question. When I go through the trash folder, I KNOW why most comments were trashed, either by me or another moderator.
But there are always a few where I think, ‘I wonder why the writer trashed that one…’
I make heavy use of the Edit link. I know there’s a Request Deletion link, but I assumed that put it into some kind of pre-trash bin. I’ll try Request Deletion with this very comment.
Here is what Request Deletion asks before you submit the request:
“Please explain why the comment should be deleted. After sending the request, your comment will be marked as moderated and will no longer be viewable publicly.”
Nothing about trash.
Works like a charm
Let’s test it. Trump- 4 years 0 wars. Biden- 2 years 2 wars. You do the math.
Always cracks me up that you shit-for-brains types have nothing better to do.
