January 6 Felon/Insurrectionist To Headline Local Rethug Fundraiser

Can we simply accept the reality that the Rethuglican Party no longer pretends to be anything but a fascist party?

Here’s the story.  One Derrick Evans will appear at the Delaware Colonial Region Of Republicans ‘Spirit Of Freedom’ Dinner as the guest speaker.

Here is what the Delaware Colonial Region Of Republicans encompasses:

The Colonial Region is composed of the 5th, 8th, 9th, 15th, 17th, 18th and 27th, representative districts. It stretches from the Maryland State border to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and down the coast to the southern New Castle County border. It includes sections of New Castle, Newark, Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend.

8th and 9th ( Middletown area, Odessa, Townsend)

5th, 15th, 17th, 18th & 27th  ( New Castle and Newark).

Who is Derrick Evans?  This guy:

Two years to the day after storming the U.S. Capitol, a former West Virginia state lawmaker who served prison time for his role in the riot said Friday that he hopes to return to the scene of his crime as an elected official.

Derrick Evans, who livestreamed himself on Facebook cheering on what he described as a “revolution” at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, announced he will run for a U.S. House seat in 2024.

The announcement struck a markedly different tone from the remorse he expressed as he stood before a federal judge at his sentencing in June.

Evans, 37, pleaded guilty to a felony civil disorder charge and served a three-month sentence for participating in the riot. At his sentencing, Evans told the judge he regretted his actions every day and is a “good person who unfortunately was caught up in a moment.

After his release in October, Evans began criticizing the federal government’s prosecutions of Capitol riot defendants. His statement Friday described the prosecutions as a “miscarriage” of justice. Despite his contrition at sentencing, Evans said his “resolve never waned.”

Got it. An unrepentant felon/insurrectionist will be the Rethugs’ featured speaker at a campaign event.

Does nobody have a problem with that? Kevin Hensley? That’s your district. Got anything to say?

  1. Here’s Hensley’s contact info:

    302-744-4171 (House Of Reps)
    kevin.hensley@delaware.gov

    His REMax #’s:

    (302) 273-0057
    (302) 218-0130

He owes both his constituents and the people of Delaware an explanation as to why he supports having a felon/insurrectionist representing the Republican Party at a fundraising event designed to benefit him.

Especially since I think he is the ONLY elected Republican official from this region.

  2. Alby says:

Well, given that Middletown is Delaware’s White Flight Central, this should surprise nobody.

  3. Peachy says:

Hensley will do a Hensley. Do nothing, say nothing and try to get in a Stephanie Hansen photo op. Then he will attend your local HOA meeting and appease the old racists with “im a republican” when it’s politically convenient

    • MonteCristo says:

Well if he wants learn about being disingenuous annd appealing to old racists, hanging with Stephanie is a good start.

  4. bamboozer says:

The Republicans are Fascists at this point, the “good friends” of Chris Coons or not, all they lack is to actually “say the name”. The Nazis are still here and have merely been dormant since W.W. II, racial hatred and a deep suspicion of education are their tools, and the ignorant their road to power.

  5. Jason says:

There is an old saying… If Democrats had done this, boy oh boy, there’d be hell to pay.

It is evergreen because Democrats never make Republicans pay for even the most egregious transgressions. As noted here, they have people like Hansen and Coons who always stick up for them. As a result they also rarely pay a price at the polls. Especially Delaware Republicans. It is as if they are allowed to pretend is it always 1990 and collegial comity reigns supreme. Trump who? There is no treasonous convicted sex offend running the GOP as far as Ramone and Henley are concerned.
