Song of the Day 10/10: Parliament, “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)”

Hurricane Milton didn’t do as much damage as it might have, but you’re probably seen the photos of St. Petersburg’s Tropicana Field. The storm did, indeed, tear the roof off the sucker.

I can never keep straight which band name any particular George Clinton song was released under; this one was on 1975’s “Mothership Connection,” credited to Parliament. Clinton had bigger hits on the R&B chart, but “Give Up the Funk” was his best crossover performance, reaching No. 15 on the Hot 100.
