Song of the Day 4/2: Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, “Against the Wind”
H/t to Cape Gazette editorial cartoonist Jim Paterson, whose recent cartoon used the title of the Bob Seger song as the headline for his take on the battle between the state and Sussex County over an offshore wind farm.
Delaware’s Chancery Court ruled last week that Sussex County can’t deny a permit that would allow U.S. Wind, which wants to build a 114-turbine farm off Ocean City, Md., to build a substation in Dagsboro that would link the project to the regional electric grid.
Paterson’s cartoon depicts both Sussex County and the federal government pushing against the project, with both state government and the court pushing for it. Once the Trump regime is out of office, it’s going to be three against one, and given the energy-gobbling nature of the AI boom, the whiners who think the sight of offshore windmills will ruin their property values might have to suck it up. They’re wrong about that anyway.
The title song to Bob Seger’s 1980 album was a No. 5 Billboard hit, his fourth top-10 single since his 1976 breakthrough with “Night Moves.” Glenn Frey of the Eagles sings backup on the tune, a metaphor for aging that Seger said was informed by his years as a high school cross-country runner.
