Song of the Day 5/7: Uncle Tupelo, “Whiskey Bottle”
As El Somnambulo noted in the Open Thread news roundup, if Kash Patel doesn’t want people to think he’s a boozehound, maybe he should quit handing out personalized bottles of Woodford Reserve bourbon. He might quit spelling his name Ka$h while he’s at it.
Ur-Americana band Uncle Tupelo had a thing for writing about drinking – “Moonshiner” and “I Got Drunk” appeared along with this Jay Farrar-led number on the band’s definitive anthology LP “89/93.” Maybe that’s why they so often sound depressed. The song debuted on their influential debut “No Depression,” the album that did a lot to kick-start the alt-country movement in 1990.

Savoring an occasional 1.5 ounce pour of whiskey can be a delightful experience that is comparable to that of savoring morning coffee.
How occasional? Asking for someone named Ka$h.
