Perhaps not as much diversity as usual, but some real bangers. A month for rockers. Enjoy. June? You’re up.
Here’s the alleged story of this song:
““In 1685 Alice Molland was the last woman to be tried and hanged as a witch in England, strung up on a ‘HeadTree’ just outside of Exeter. Now, from her burial place underneath an Aldi carpark in the town of Heavitree, she summons the spirits of her fallen sisters-in-sin-Mary Trembles, Temperance Lloyd and Susannah Edwards-as well as, for some reason, the spirit of the Bee Gees, in order to tell her tale. Uttered through the coerced mouths of Opus Kink and The New Eves”:
Stick with this video until the very end:
My head is sore from all the banging, but it’s a good sore. Iceage is my new favorite band, but I like the Basement song almost as much. Cola doesn’t exactly bang, but the I like the song and it did give me a pretty good thump. I really enjoyed the new Beatles song — I mean Lemon Twigs. They were my new favorite band not that long ago. About Opus Kink — you never need an excuse to summon the spirit of the Bee Gees, although I don’t believe they ever banged. A lot of other good ones here too.
I just sampled the whole Iceage album and decided they’re not my new favorite band after all. But “The Weak” still might be my new favorite song. Now I think Basement might be my new favorite band, at least until, say, Thursday. India Ramey and Westside Cowboy are moving up my list.
Kinda surprised you didn’t mention Wild Pink…
…BTW, found my first song for June today. Liked it so much that I sent it over to Mike Dinsmore b/c I think it’s right in his wheelhouse.
I thought the Wild Pink song was pretty good but I didn’t really like the video, which I guess made me less receptive to it. On the other hand, I’m liking the Hovvdy song more and I didn’t particularly like that video either. The guy should chill a little. I think I liked the Iceage video best and I thought the ironic Lemon Twigs one was pretty funny. I liked the cowgirl too.
I was on the fence about that Hovvdy song.
Still am.
Had no doubt about all the others, though.
