Song of the Day 8/19: Bruno Mars, “Natalie”

Wow, did Jon Ossoff strike a nerve. He mentioned the name – just the first name, mind you – of the young aide who travels around with Donald Trump and seems to be smitten to the point of worship. The White House response reeked of panic and rage-spittle, triggering the Streisand Effect – Google searches for Natalie Harp were up a Trumpian 1,600% from last week to this.

Amid the avalanche of stories about the bottle blonde, a few commentators worry she might be some sort of mole because she once worked for OAN, a further-right-than-Fox operation that has links to Russia.

Bruno Mars was singing about a different Natalie on this track from his 2012 album “Unorthodox Jukebox,” one who stole all his money. Could she have been a blackjack dealer at the MGM in Las Vegas? For what its worth, Mars denies the rumors about his gambling debts resulting in a years-long residency at the casino.
