Donald Trump has tried his hand at many businesses over the years, and not a single one of them has been successful. Beyond the bankrupted casinos, he’s managed to fail at running an airline shuttle, a fraudulent charity and a fraudulent university, even at peddling steaks.
So when, in response to a television news blackout after he banned several outlets from the White House, he launched Trump TV, it’s fate was never in doubt. As Sophia Tesfaye points out at Slate,
The numbers tell the story. “Trump TV: The Essentials Station” went live on the White House YouTube channel Monday at 7 p.m. Roughly 8,000 people tuned in for the premiere. Ninety minutes later that number had been reduced by half. By the next morning, as the cable news shows Trump was supposedly trying to render obsolete came on the air, his own channel had cratered to a little over 1,000 viewers, out of more than three million subscribers to the White House’s YouTube account.
Ned’s Atomic Dustbin had the right idea. For those who weren’t into early-’90s British indie rock, NAD came out of the Midlands around Birmingham with this debut single in 1990. It made the lower reaches of the UK singles chart and landed them a recording contract. Their first two LPs went top 10 in the UK but made no impact in America. They broke up in the mid-’90s.
Lots of bands have two guitarists, a few have two drummers, but only Ned’s Atomic Dustbin had two bass players. The name came from a sketch on the Goon Show, a radio comedy forerunner of Monty Python that included Peter Sellers.
The carnage never discussed is the little builders that did casino work for 47. Most went bankrupt. Others got 3 cent on the dollar. Lost money on lawyer bills. That’s something the corporate press never reported.
