The blue tide in Texas swept through the Rio Grande valley, where Hispanics turned against the GOP in a big way. Among the beneficiaries was Tejano musician turned politician Bobby Pulido, who
drubbed two-term incumbent Monica De la Cruz 62-38 in Texas 15.
Pulido was part of a contingent of young singers who earned tejano mainstream attention in the late 90s, and was marketed as a teen idol. His singing career waned in the new millennium, when he started doing more acting. He made a big comeback in the 2010s, and in recent years has won a couple of Grammy awards, so he’s going out of music on top.
Here he is with the band El Plan from his final album, a series of live performances collected as the Grammy-nominated “Bobby Pulido & Friends: Una Tuya y Una Mía, Vol. 2,” released earlier this year. Best of luck to him in his political career.
