Let’s talk about the economy! “Private-sector employers hired just 27,000 people in May, payroll processor ADP said”, that’s a fraction of the 175,000 predicted. Bad prediction or the shape of things to come? Suspect it’s a warning of what is to come, at some point the economy will falter or perhaps crash, and Trump’s Mexican tariff game may just get us there.
I have noticed over the years that not once, ever, have the economists’ monthly predictions matched the results. Ever. Sometimes they’re over, sometimes they’re under, but never in the 25 years they’ve been printing this information have the two numbers been the same.
At what point do we figure out that economics is not so much a dismal science as a dismal failure?
Way back when I was in college, I wrote a paper (in economics class) about why macro economics was a bunch of hooey. My basic premise was that it is unpredictable and uncontrollable simply because it is impossible to account for all the variables, especially when the variables are global and environmental (Mother Nature). Economic theory can only be relied on in a controlled environment and thus only micro economics has any credibility.
I got a B- on the paper because while the prof felt my theories were interesting, he also believed I was incorrect. He was and remains full of it. It is as predictable as weather, maybe less so. I should have gotten an A.
I don’t think it’s useless, but I also don’t think it’s a science, for the very reason you state — we can’t actually isolate the moving parts of something so complex.
Macroeconomics is like epidemiology — it can measure things in the aggregate but on a scale that’s of little to no practical use. By example, epidemiology tells use there’s a link between tobacco use and cancer — but it has no ability to isolate the biological mechanism involved.

I just love how she asked her boss how to get a referral and the boss said, “What’s a referral?”
They know what referrals are in Germany. Just like the States you have to get one before you do anything. Maybe there was that little language barrier thing.

Glad to hear someone has had a positive experience, here is mine. I moved to Germany after getting a Visa to work there on 14 January. This Visa allowed me to come over but not actually work and get paid. I had to find health insurance first before I could actually get paid and legally work. 3 health Insurance companies here have actually turned me down or made the costs so prohibitive my salary would not come close to covering the costs. Supposedly I have Insurance now but I have no proof of that but I have been paid after what, 5 months? Come live the perfect Socialist healthcare system and you will find out that they have a problem with pre-existing conditions and they also have death panels.
That sounds more like a complaint about immigration than it does about healthcare or socialism.
Since you went to live and work in a foreign country I would have to assume you are opposed to countries building border walls and keeping out immigrants based on race and/or religion. Correct?

Re It has been a couple of months since I was last here. If all your misconceptions about German healthcare were true I would have been covered by now. Hell, getting a bank account over here is not guaranteed.

Like Alby said. You’re a bad faith actor. You got a work visa for foreign nationals. Even after some softening of the requirements due to EU it is notoriously difficult to be permitted a long term visa in Germany.

B) I’m pretty sure he was asking which party you thought HE was parroting, not what party you are a member of. And it was a rhetorical question to boot.
C) My point in framing this as an immigration issue was that it seems to speak more about the status of your visa/citizenship than about the state of healthcare for Germans without such a murky status.
So if you wanted to state that Germany is less generous to non-citizens than Iceland, that might be a fair point. But for it to be apples to apples you’d need to go get a mammogram and see if they bill you. Without a referral.
