Psst. Republicans. Come here and look at this.

Republicans have been ratcheting up their divisive rhetoric towards the President over the past week, and it made me think Obama’s poll numbers must be dropping, or at least the stimulus plan must be unpopular. The truth is, both are very popular.

The public may be largely taking these Cabinet controversies in stride because it tends to view them as nothing out of the ordinary, according to the Feb. 4 USA Today/Gallup poll that probed reaction to the controversies.

Specifically, the poll finds 58% of Americans describing the controversies as “a normal part of the process of filling high-level government positions in any new administration.” Only half that number — 29% — think they reflect poorly on the Obama administration, saying the administration “appears to be having more problems filling high government positions than is typical for new administrations.” The remaining 12% have no opinion.

A new CBS poll finds that 60 percent of Americans view Congressional Republicans unfavorably, with just 32 percent viewing them favorably. These numbers compare unfavorably with those of Congressional Democrats, as a plurality of voters (48 percent) rate the party’s caucus positively and just 43 percent rate it negatively. President Obama’s numbers are significantly better than those, with 62 percent approving of the job he is doing and a remarkably small 15 percent voicing disapproval.

This is despite the two week long Republican/media lovefest. Imagine how good the numbers would be if Americans really understood the stimulus package.

  2. Obama’s numbers will be below 50% by 1 June and will not recover.

He is not up to the job.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment of this post, but presidential approval ratings tend to be abnormally high early in their first term. These numbers will, all things being equal, drop.

Also, Protack, I don’t want to hear about anybody not being up to the job. I’ve never seen such a definitive shut out as the one you received in September.

Mike – based on? Your biased opinion? The National Review? Radio Rush? DE Lib commentor Tom S.? (I do think it’s funny that he calls him Barry…).

At least when I make something up I admit it’s made up… If you’re such a brilliant soothesayer why to you continually run for office with no chance of winning?

With a track record like yours we can all rejoice that BHO will be on Mount Rushmore by 2020.

Protack you and you ilk are absolute obstructionists! I get all those right wing newsmax and grassfire “right wing think tank talking points”. You are not “country first”, you are “party first”. Everyone of those right wing groups are laying out their plan…the repukes “must stand together against ANYTHING Obama plans”.

They can’t have Obama succeeding on any issue, so they will obstruct, destruct, demonize, lie, deceive their uneducated, uninformed getting their talking points from a fat cigar smokin multi millionaire drug abuser who has been wrong on everything.

If you repukes think for one minute that your stubborn obstructionism will some how bring voters back to your party…you are dead man walkin.
