Around the Horn Friday
Another week, another Delaware Blogosphere “crisis.” This time, Mike Matthews proclaims boldly that he is done with Delaware Liberal because I guess we were too critical of him, or mean. Oh the irony. He’ll be back. We are like the mob. Just when you thought you were out, we will pull you back in. Meanwhile, in an interesting turnaround from the events of last week, “John Feroce” and “FSP” are back commenting here… alot. See Matthews, it is impossible to resist us.
Now onto serious, or at least, non-meta posts from around the Delaware Blogosphere:
• Dana Garrett reports that states may stop executions to cut costs. That is an interesting side affect of the Great Depression II. Who knew that killing people cost more money than jailing them?
• Dana also discusses Governor Markell’s “Green is Gold” plan, and is somewhat critical:
But I am not sure I want a visionary heading up DNREC as much as I want a watchdog, a particularly tenacious and vigilant one. I want someone who focuses on cleaning up Delaware and keeping it safe, not someone also focused on growing its economy. I worry that a “green is gold” Secretary could find a conflict of roles between regulating polluters and looking out for Delaware’s bottom line.
I want both a watchdog on the old industries and a visionary for the new industries. I guess I am trusting that we can walk and chew gum at the same time.
• Redwater Lily gives us a recipe for homemade Artisan bread.
• Nancy Willing reports on DLC Tom Carper just missing being listed as one of the Senate’s Top 10 recipients of lobbyist and PAC money in 2006. He finished 11th. Darn. Better luck in 2012.
Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) $164,490 Individuals, $48,193 Lobbyists, $212,683 PACs
• Nancy also thinks there could be nepotism at work in Governor Markell’s new energy policy. I’ll let her try to connect the dots.
Yesterday, as Tommywonk honked for UD’s Willett Kempton’s V2G and electric cars, Markell held a presser about his collaboration with a Rehoboth Beach-based, think tank, the Climate Prosperity Project, [which is] linked to Global Urban Development and today announced a grant to AutoPort, Inc. to outfit car engines with the capacity to run on electricity. [Of note: GUD’s Climate Prosperity Project’s Executive Board includes Willett Kempton’s significant other, Stephanie McClellan, [who is also Governor Markell’s] Policy Director[.]
Nancy goes onto to question McClellan’s environmental credentials and calls her a talented bootstrapper, but I am wondering, what is the scandal here again? Electric cars are good, no? I guess I don’t see conspiracies everywhere.
• Tommywonk, as linked in Nancy’s post above, has a lot on Governor Markell’s Climate Prosperity Strategy for Delaware: Here, and Here, and Here.
• Shirley comments on Delaware’s Big Fat Losers. I sense a reality show coming. Mike Matthews was made for reality TV. We could even do a mashup of sorts of reality shows: Biggest Losers and the Bachlorette, with Christine O’Donnell. Well, while we wait for the TV show, here is the website.
• Mike Matthews liveblogged the Red Clay School District Meeting. Hilarity ensues.
• Kilroy keeps the focus on Red Clay the majority of the week as well.
• Brian Shields has a call to action about supporting our local business.
• There is nothing of local interest at Colussus of Rhodey this week. And Matthews complains that we are shrill and insulting here. Has he ever read Hube? You see, that is why I roll my eyes whenever Matthews acts self righteous about our temperment over here. Please, look at what we have to deal with?
• Same thing for Dana at Common Sense Political Thought. Not about shrillness, but about local content. But I will link to him because his site looks nice now.
• And same thing for the other Del Lib gang. Their only local content is ragging on us. I only point out that Del Libertarian, Hube and Dana don’t have local content so that I don’t get accused of … wait for it… Bias!. LOL. Oh hell yeah I am biased, but in the Around the Horn, I do include the radical right, IF they write about local issues. You don’t have to write about Delaware, but if you don’t, then no linky.
• Ah Ha! Burris actually asks a great question of Progressive Representative John Kowalko, and I want an answer to that question. I do think the only state issue we liberals and conservatives can agree on is Open Government. He also expresses his own concern over Markell’s Green is Gold program.
• And he alleges that donors to Dr./Senator Michael Katz funded negative ads against Son of Clatworthy (ah, I miss him). My reaction is meh. Didn’t Bush Donors fund the Swiftboat Liars without any complaint from Burris? Yes.
• Finally, in case you missed it earlier this week, here is John Feroce discussing the latest obsession of radical cleric Glen Beck, and Liberal Geek’s geeky takedown.
Thanks for doing all the heavy lifting, DD.
I am offering the following template for inter-blog communication. I think it will save a lot of time. Mike Matthews, please fill this out and submit it as soon as possible:

LOL, DD. Looks like you are trying to end Matthews’ Exile in one day.
Nancy goes onto to question McClellan’s environmental credentials

DD, that is not an accurate reading of the question ‘how long has McClellan sat on this Board. Sitting on boards don’t experts make nor was that the point. The point isn’t that electric cars are a good thing either~! It is, however, that this married couple has a great deal of infuence in Dover and they also stand to make some money off of Green E programming and grants. Isn’t this the crowd that crowds McDowell with these same kinds of questions?
Pretty good anon.(#2) I think you’ve captured the spiritus mundi pretty well.
oh, and what P. said.
Hmph.
anon (and we know who you are…) – point well taken. I think that perhaps we cut more slack for Dr. Kempton and less for Sen. McDowell due to their positions on BWW.
And anon #2, I owe you a beer (or single-malt) for that comment.
Sorry RSmitty. You’re still my favorite righty.
Gee LG, you usually ‘out’ me. Why the restraint? FTR, I have a few nasty stalkers that are prompted to the lowest retorts when they see my name. I don’t feel like swallowing a continued ration of these commentor’s bile.
It is rather amusing to note that so many otherwise smart people (you LG and some DTRers) are assuming that I am anonymous to be anonymous.
thanks for getting and posting the drift of the post/comment above, LG. 🙂
The Dr. Katz thing is pretty weak tea. It looks that the issues here are that they don’t know if the Moderates for Republicans were really, you know, Republicans. Which I suppose is worth wondering about, since the usual thing is to listen to Rs complaining that one of their own isn’t conservative enough (read: batshit crazy enough) — the signs of useless conservative purity was what this moderate group wanted to warn people of.
No matter what you think about this, though, it seems that this nicely cancels out whatever bit of business Norman Oliver was paid for to help disseminate Copeland propaganda in Wilmington.
Nice job, DD!
Loud and clear. I haven’t actually done so on any site that I actually CAN see your identity. Usually just when I recognize your “voice”
I am not exactly interested in disguise for disguising. Just to avoid choking on the bile.
This was a great horn post. I had missed most of the action linking to DP. eeeteresting.

this looks like the slippery slope one range over from the namestealer slope.
No local content eh?
http://delawarelibertarian.blogspot.com/2009/02/fearmongering-reaches-wilmington.html
Well, that was posted after I posted this. It will be included next week.
And don’t take it personally. I was not insulting you about the local content thing, just explaining why I had no links to your stories this week. And it is a constant struggle here to remember to write locally too, so no worries.
Re Katz – I loved how Dave pimped his stupid fake outrage post with a random link over here.

First thing I noticed. It’s good to be number one.
Suzanne at Redwaterlily’s Ramblings has done a great job following the stimulus package over the last several weeks.

Hey…we are the echo chamber. That is copyright infringement.
And if I might add a third comment
Feel free. It is a living document.
Burris fixed his login requirement. Looks like just a temporary thing as he was migrating his site. Not sure why you have to export data for a DNS change, but oh well.
