DL Exclusive: House Speaker Minor-Brown Sought Chamber Presidency

DL has learned that House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown applied for the position as President of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.  This is the position that ultimately went to another Representative, Michael Smith.  Smith claims he will hold both positions if reelected.  I, uh, doubt that.

In hindsight, it’s at least possible that Brown’s refusal to run certain pieces of legislation near the end of the term that concluded on June 30 can be viewed as a peace offering to the Chamber, even though in so doing she alienated legislators who previously supported her.  These were not viewed as controversial pieces of legislation, but Minor-Brown made sure they never saw an Agenda.

I mean, it’s not as if Minor-Brown has any bedrock policy principles.  Plus, there were $300,000 reasons for her to want that job.

I have two questions, possibly both rhetorical at this point:

1.  Did Minor-Brown have such a lack of self-awareness to think that she was a perfect fit for the Chamber?  Although…perhaps the Chamber would have done a more efficient job of hiding her temper tantrums from the public.

2.  How does Mimi propose to convince the Caucus that, well, she can be trusted as Speaker after this?  My answer:  She flat-out can’t.  Perhaps a few cycles ago, an unholy alliance between the Speaker and the Chamber would have been tolerated.  But not with this incoming caucus, not after this election.  she has demonstrated that she is untrustworthy which, ironically, means her salary is gonna be knocked down a few notches.  Memo to whoever are elected to leadership this year: Don’t give her a position on any of the money committees either.  I mean, I think she’s still double-  or triple-dipping. That should be enough to tide her over.

Mimi doesn’t have the temperament for that job, although Smith isn’t that much better. Man 300k to send out a newsletter and attend dinners isn’t a bad gig tho? So not surprised so many wanted it.

Someone sent this to me so I wanted to jump on and clear up this rumor. I did NOT apply for, or even inquire about this position. In fact, it doesn’t even align with the work that I do as a healthcare provider.
