The Can of Worms is Opened.

Filed in National by on April 13, 2009

I was struck by the juxtaposition of two items on Daily Kos open thread today.

The first is this:

Glenn Beck backs out of keynoting San Antonio tea party.

Could that be because of the next item:

Speaking of Glenn Beck, from his website’s message boards (all errors from the original):

My son, is an operator with an SF team and we are in reg comm. they are ready. we are ready. and if you start reading between the lines, you will see it. L presidente obama bin osama, is breathing borrowed air. as are all of congress. it has gone to far. they will all hang. just be ready.

Emphasis mine.

Yes, a teabagger just implied the assasination of President Obama and the whole of Congress.

If anything violent happens to President Obama during his term or terms in office, it is on Beck’s (and those like him) head, given his calls to a revolution and his talk of tyranny. And maybe Beck is beginning to realize just what he has unleashed.

I see that more as implying a coup. Of course, I am translating “SF” as Special Forces, and then I see the “…as are all of Congress…” line, so I take that to be talk of a coup. Now, I also think this is total wingnut moonbattery, BUT…BUT…should not be dismissed, either. Hopefully, it gets serious investigation.

  2. jason330 says:

maybe Beck is beginning to realize just what he has unleashed.

He does not seem to be that aware to me.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

Hmmm Smitty. When I first read it I took it to be San Francisco. But Special Forces makes more sense. Well, if there is an attempt at a coup, then we will have a nice little civil war on our hands.

  4. cassandra_m says:

This juxtaposition also exists in the comments section of your own blog, dude.

  5. RSmitty says:

DD, it was the way it was stated. I thought San Fran first, too, in terms of a tea party. At second read, I saw that it said:
…is an operator with an SF team…

“AN” instead of “THE.” That is what made me think it was in reference to Special Forces
    An [a] S[pecial] F[orces] team…
    vs.
    The S[an] F[rancisco] team…

  6. RSmitty says:

    cass…huh?
Nevermind, I think you’re talking to DD.

  7. cassandra_m says:

Yes, sorry, I was talking to DD.

And I read that item to be Special Forces too.

  8. Truth Teller says:

This is the kind of shit that goes on down here in Sussex on WDMG 92.7 FM everyday with most of the Host agreeing.
I sure hope the Secret Service tracks this ass wipe down.

  9. Hmm.. that is some scary stuff.

I read it as Special Forces…

  10. This is the kind of shit that goes on down here in Sussex on WDMG 92.7 FM everyday with most of the Host agreeing.
I sure hope the Secret Service tracks this ass wipe down.

…and people act surprised when I tell them that I can’t listen to talk radio, so I bought a satellite radio.

  11. Miscreant says:

“If anything violent happens to President Obama during his term or terms in office, it is on Beck’s (and those like him) head, given his calls to a revolution and his talk of tyranny.”

I would agree, should this happen, it would be horrendous. But certainly no more than your own egregious call(s) to action.

  12. Susan Regis Collins says:

Hey! Where are all the grammar nazi’s?

This joker says “…….things have gone to far….” & “….as are all of congress…”. This was written by someone on the left side of the bell shaped curve. I certainly hope the government takes this seriously but I certainly do not.

A threath against a U.S. President must always be taken seriously.

  13. Miscreant says:

    “A threath against a U.S. President must…”

Could you please share some insight regarding what it’s actually like on your side of the bell curve?

    Thanks in advance.

  14. pandora says:

L presidente obama bin osama, is breathing borrowed air. as are all of congress. it has gone to far. they will all hang. just be ready.

Borrowed air? They will all hang? Geez, Mis, what would you call words like these? Compliments? They are threats and they are creepy.

  15. Delaware Dem says:

Miscreant once again continues his dishonest attacks on me to justify assassination threats on the part of his ideological brethren. I say it is dishonest because not once has Miscreant acknowledged that I have apologized profusely for my hyperbolic outburst on the day the world’s economy collapsed.

  16. jason330 says:

What a low life. These guys have nothing, so they have to hang everyone of their lame arguments on some slip up, typo or technicality.

  17. So now Beck is personally responsible for the content of all comments? I suppose, then, that the owners of this site are personally responsible for the murder of any Republican, given the eliminationist comments posted here calling for the killing of all GOP voters and officeholders.

  18. a. price says:

Oh RWR, you are a moronic d-bag indeed. First of all, no single contributor (sorry guys) or commenter on this site has the audience, or following that Glen Beck does. The Right wing takes their talking anuses MUCH more seriously than we do.. more so at times than your actual elected lawmakers.
Sadly, Glen Beck has power. lots of people listen to him, think he is intelligent and informed and think he knows what he is talking about.
there is a great big pot of gun loving Obama fearing crazies out there….. most of them got that way BECAUSE of folks like Glenn Beck. he has a moral responsibility to not stir that pot to violence because, if he talks about revolution, and impending doom… as if it is the only possible future, he will be their battle cry and cause and the blood will be on his hands as well for not putting a stop to it when he has the means.

before you go off on a baseless freedom of speech tirade, im not talking about taking legal action to stop Glenn, i’m just saying if he really has this new born again soul he has been making money off of, he will do the right thing. Civil disobedience is one thing… i love it, i do it all the time…. but whipping up scared inbred rednecks into a violent revolutionary state, when they don’t even really understand what they are waiving their not-actually-threatened guns at….. is irresponsible and it is OUR duty to all the bastard out.

  19. Mrs XStryker says:

Susan, you wanted someone to correct some grammar? I’ll be correcting your punctuation for improper apostrophe usage. “Nazi’s” implies posession. Correct: “Nazis”. An apostrophe is not a symbol that meaning to beware of oncoming “S”.

  20. Unstable Isotope says:

Miscreant is very dishonest. He might have a point if DD had posted something inflammatory (without apologizing) and a bunch of commenters agreed and cheered him on. IIRC remember DD got criticized by all the commenters and I’m sure he was already regretting his use of hyperbole as soon as he posted it.

I think we need a new rule for the Delaware blogosphere. We’ve all heard of Godwin’s Law about internet flame wars and Nazis. I think we need a “Delaware Dem Rule.” If one invokes DD in their argument, it means they have already lost the argument.

  21. Miscreant says:

I read the apology, and didn’t acknowledge or believe it because I found it to be insincere. You only wrote it after you were thoroughly spanked by other bloggers. Can opened… worms out.

“I think we need a “Delaware Dem Rule.”

Indeed, a new rule would be very convenient for intellectual cowards.

  22. Miscreant says:

    “Agreed, UI.”

    Was that an echo?

  23. cassandra m says:

didn’t acknowledge or believe it because I found it to be insincere

Which would make you Ground Zero for the wingnut defect of not knowing hyperbole from serious threats. In other words, you’ve got the demonstrated intellectual cowardice here. Its a wonder you aren’t compiling a list of socialists here to breathlessly report to the voices on your radio.

And RWR and all of your little buddies who follow your lead in this — that counts as your own personal echo chamber, I’m thinking.

  24. pandora says:

No, Mis, it was common sense. There’s such a thing as piling on – and I might point out that I’ve called out others for doing the same thing (Matthews/Burris subpoena gate).

Attributing motives to an apology is tacky and graceless. Continuing to harp on one incident is childish and intellectually dishonest, especially when we could all be tied to one damning comment. Would you like me to comment rescue one of your gems?

  25. jason330 says:

    Shorter Lee Ann: Frazzlemislerassel-mussleshumrushle!

  26. Miscreant says:

Cassandra – your responses are inspirational. Typically, you take two paragraphs and between 50 and sixty words to essentially say…

    No we’re not… YOU ARE!

Cassanddra – I appreciate your insight and expertise on “piling on”, because that’s exactly how you roll on DL on a daily basis.

“Attributing motives to an apology is tacky and graceless.”

Only when you are in denial. Otherwise, it’s factual.

“Would you like me to comment rescue one of your gems?”

If you care enough to devote the time, do whatever makes you damp.

  27. pandora says:

Oh, you are a class act, Mis. And given your lack of response, I’ll claim victory over another of your tacky and graceless comments.

  28. cassandra_m says:

I appreciate your insight and expertise on “piling on”, because that’s exactly how you roll on DL on a daily basis.

That would be the line from those who won’t answer the points made. Or who are not especially good at getting too far from their talking points. But You still haven’t addressed the point I made, retreating into the usual name-calling that you want to do over here. Whatever blows your skirt up, man, but don’t get mad at us for noticing that all you’ve got is the name calling and the talking points, ok?

  29. Miscreant says:

Congrats on your self-proclaimed victory, Pandora. Even if it is hollow, you deserve some kind of bone on your anniversary.

Cassandra – please give me some direction here… Is your usual uninspired “talking points” response an official new *rule* on DL? I must have missed the memo. Is the “name calling” anything like this; “What a low life.”? (post # 16)

Reminding you of your flawed ideologies and hypocrisies isn’t name calling. Well, I guess that depends on who makes up the rules. And a sincere thanks for proving my earlier point about the wordiness of your non-responses.

  30. cassandra_m says:

Reminding you of your flawed ideologies and hypocrisies isn’t name calling.

Well, when you get around to doing this, let us know — we’ll do a comment rescue and throw around some confetti. So far the best you’ve been able to muster is repetition of DDs hyperbolic rounding up repubs bit and some not very good barbs based on nothing other than what you imagine we might be thinking.

And thanks for continuing to respond to my non-responses!

  31. pandora says:

I really don’t appreciate your overtly sexual responses to me, Mis. They are demeaning and creepy. Please stop, since I really don’t believe a.) you speak that way to the women in your life, and b.) I highly doubt you’d say such things to my face.

Ironically, it is you who now owes me an apology.

  32. anon idiot says:

    Yeah, SF means Special Forces.

“we are in reg comm. ”

    Any idea what this means?

EDITED: Never mind, I’m a fucking idiot. “we are in regular communication.”

  33. Unstable Isotope says:

Miscreant showed a real lack of class in those remarks.

  34. Miscreant says:

How very egotistical of you, Pandora, to interpret insults as something sexual. Talk about”creepy”.

Since it’s your anniversary, I’ll try to be as tactful as possible. From what I’ve seen in pictures (and read) on this blog, you have absolutely no physical (or intellectual) attributes that would interest me in the least.

Apology? Sure thing. I’m sorry if the truth (above) offends you.

  35. Miscreant says:

“Miscreant showed a real lack of class in those remarks.”

I’ve never professed to have class. Perhaps you are showing a lack of comprehension.

  36. Kevin says:

How amazingly insular, childish, and patronizing the lot of you are. Those of us who resist Obamanation were not whipped into a frenzy by Glen Beck. Conservatism is an intellectual philosophy based on the a belief in individual liberty and personal responsibility. It was developed by Jefferson, Madison, and their peers. It is a philosophy at odds with the narcissistic, intellectual shallowness that seems to pervade the left.

  37. cassandra_m says:

Jefferson, Madison, and their peers wouldn’t find anything honorable in what you people are doing. You are out and about airing your grievances for having lost an election. Not because you have an principled stance against Obama’s policy. If you really had an issue with the spending and budgets and so on, you folks would have been having Tea Parties all throughout the BushCo Years.

  38. anonone says:

It was developed by Jefferson, Madison, and their peers.

Jefferson and Madison were hardly “conservatives.” The “conservatives” in their day were the royalists, just like all you King Bush worshipping repubs.

I have no doubt that Kevin and his ilk would have been fighting with the throne, not with the revolutionaries like Jefferson and Franklin.

  39. cassandra_m says:

    Excellent point A1.

  40. anon says:

Those of us who resist Obamanation were not whipped into a frenzy by Glen Beck.

OK, so tell us what happened at last year’s tea party.

As I recall 2008 also featured high spending, and the same tax rates that are in effect right now.

  41. Unstable Isotope says:

I notice Miscreant’s criticisms of Cassandra and Pandora come in the form of crude sexual remarks. I’m sick of it.
