I had never given money to political campaigns until Obama came on the scene. I had volunteered for candidates, but never wrote a check. Honestly, I found the money thing a little distasteful. I also found it expensive. Fundraisers that cost 200.00+ to attend?
Then Obama came along and changed the rules. Suddenly I was in charge of the amount I contributed. Small donations were given the same – if not more! – importance as large ones and no matter what anyone donated we were all placed on the guest list. And not in a tiered fashion… you know, labeled as ‘Gold Club’ or ‘Little People’.
So, yes DV… if you believe in your candidate a small donation of your choosing can’t hurt, and until we change the system it’s one way to show support.
One of Obama’s biggest successes, and one that has SDs salivating, has been his fundraising capabilities. This guy hasn’t only redrawn the map he’s reshaped how money is raised.
Getting elected takes money. If you want progressives to be elected you have to support them. If we don’t, then the big corporations get to have all the say. The most effective way to take back our country is to fund our candidates.
I really love the small donor concept….bottom-up fund raising. During the 2006 campaigns I supported the Act Blue- Blue Majority fundraising idea…..it’s a great website, you read up & choose who you wish to support…I literally gave 5 bucks to several Senate & House candidates…I did it several different times….multiply that by thousands of Dems & it really adds up….this type of internet/small donation support made the difference for several candidates!!!!
Obama is the 1st to take it this far into the Presidential campaign (Dean started it)…& IT WORKS!!!!!
