Tom Carper’s Diminishing Returns
Obama needs about 30 super delegates votes to close this out. It is a done deal that he is going to get them since Hillary is shutting down her campaign and has decided to stop trying to wreck the party to satisfy her vanity.
So, the question become, not WILL Carper endorse Barack Obama – but WHEN will Caper endorse Barack Obama.
It seems that if he holds out too long he’ll be making a pointless “me too” vote after the dust settles.
After you modified the sentence with “to satisfy her vanity”, I look with suspicion on your bury the hatchet party invite to Hillary whack…, er, Hillary supporters.
I slipped. I really do what to be friends.
He’ll probably do the “me too” thing. Mr. DLC needs to be thinking of how he can best fit or take advantage on behalf of his constituents an order that won’t value DLCness much.
In an interview by Loudell about a month back (maybe a tad more than a month), Carper said he will endorse once the dust settles. Yes, that was the gist of what he said. So, to your point, he is fully in, “Me, too” mode.
FWIW – I think the most recent surge of super delegate endorsements are all “Me too” types. Obama’s bandwagon caught serious steam ahead of Clinton before this recent surge.
You do not get to be a U.S. Senator by taking unneccessary risks. And being a U.S. Senator is a really nice thing and most of them want to keep doing it. So there is a natural risk aversion there. Never take a stand until you absolutely must.
great…
Rebecca summed up the “Spineless Worm” approach. It may make you live longer, but its not a character element attractive in our elected leaders.
Or maybe Hillary Clinton is going to be a Senator for several years and sits on
the Armed Services Committee that helps decide what happens to Dover Air Force Base;
the transportation subcommittee that helps determine what happens to Delaware’s roads;
and the Aging Committee which will help determine what happens to Delaware’s seniors who make up a growing part of the state
and maybe she’ll remember the senators that didn’t just jump on the “me too” wagon when it was easy to do so?
No, you’d have to be the kind of person Joe Biden is — the kind who’ll screw a judicial selection as a favor to a sleazy politician like Tom Gordon — to use your position to get even with someone.
#5……….is this an example of leadership or the behavior of a manipulative weasel?
